The Opportunity
We’re partnering with an established Australian construction and engineering business to appoint an experienced People & Culture Business Partner to their Sydney team.
This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys being close to the business, building relationships with operational leaders and providing practical advice rather than operating within a heavily siloed HR function.
You'll partner with leaders, project teams and employees across the business, providing support and advice across the full employee lifecycle.
The environment is fast-paced and project-driven, so we're particularly interested in speaking with people who understand construction, engineering, infrastructure or similarly operational businesses.
The Role
This is a genuinely broad position with the opportunity to become a trusted partner to leaders across the organisation.
You'll be involved across:
- Employee relations, performance management, investigations and workplace matters
- Coaching and advising managers on day-to-day people challenges
- Workforce planning and organisational change
- Performance reviews, talent management and succession planning
- Employee engagement, retention and culture initiatives
- People reporting, analytics and workforce insights
- HR policies, processes and continuous improvement
- Modern Awards, Enterprise Agreements and employment legislation
- Learning, development and manager capability
- Improving and automating People & Culture processes and systems
- Broader People & Culture projects across the employee lifecycle
The role will give you exposure to both corporate and site-based teams, working with stakeholders ranging from senior leadership through to project managers, supervisors, employees and apprentices.
Who We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who can build credibility with operational leaders and isn't afraid to get involved in the detail when required.
Ideally, you'll have:
- 3+ years' experience as an HR Advisor, Senior HR Advisor, People & Culture Advisor, HR Business Partner or similar
- Experience within construction, engineering, infrastructure, electrical contracting or a similar project-based environment
- Strong employee relations and performance management experience
- A good understanding of Modern Awards, Enterprise Agreements and Australian employment legislation
- Experience supporting both corporate and frontline/site-based employees
- Confidence working with senior leaders and operational stakeholders
- Exposure to organisational change and workforce planning
- A practical, commercially minded approach to HR
A relevant HR, Business, Psychology or related qualification would be advantageous.
More than anything, we're looking for someone who can build trust with the business. Someone who understands that the best HR advice needs to be commercially practical as well as technically sound.
Why Consider It?
For someone coming from construction or a similar industry, this is an prospect to take on a broad role where you'll have genuine exposure across the business.
You'll work closely with senior and operational leaders, have visibility across both office and project environments, and be involved in People & Culture initiatives beyond purely day-to-day HR.
It's the type of opportunity that would suit someone who enjoys being out in the business, understanding what's happening operationally and becoming a genuine partner to the people they support.
If you're currently working within People & Culture in the construction, engineering or infrastructure sector and are interested in hearing more, we'd love to have a confidential conversation.
