About the opportunity

The Shire is seeking an experienced and motivated Public Health Officer to join our team and help protect and promote the health and wellbeing of our community.
As a Public Health Officer, you will be responsible for assessing, monitoring and responding to public and environmental health matters across the Shire. Working within relevant legislation, local laws, policies and delegated authority, you will undertake a diverse portfolio of regulatory and public health functions. This is a rewarding opportunity to contribute directly to the health, safety and wellbeing of the community while working across a broad and varied public health portfolio.
You will have the opportunity to make a tangible difference, build strong community and stakeholder relationships, contribute to strategic public health initiatives and work as part of a collaborative local government team.

Job Title: Public Health Officer
Location: Margaret River, WA
Employment Type: Non-Continuing, Full-Time (Parental Leave Cover, 13 months)
Salary: IA Level 6/7 $90,180 - $105,706 per annum (26/27 IA rates)
Key selection criteria
- Bachelor of Science (Environmental Health) or equivalent qualification approved under the Public Health Act 2016 and eligible for appointment by the Executive Director Public Health as an Authorised Officer.
- Demonstrated knowledge and application of public and environmental health legislation, codes, standards and local government regulatory responsibilities, including the ability to interpret legislative requirements and provide sound technical advice
- Demonstrated experience in assessing applications, undertaking inspections, investigations and compliance activities, including the ability to identify, assess and manage public and environmental health risks using sound skilled judgement
- Well-developed communication, customer service and organisational skills, including the ability to prepare clear reports and correspondence, manage competing priorities, and work effectively both independently and as part of a small team
