Mechanical Engineer – Building ServicesCanberra, ACT | Permanent, Full-Time | $90,000–$130,000 + Super | Negotiable on Experience
The Prospect
A leading mechanical contractor is seeking aMechanical Engineer with building services experienceto join their team in Canberra, working on the delivery oflarge-scale Defence projects.
This is a permanent, full-time opportunity suited to a Mechanical Engineer with approximately2–10 years' experienceacross building services, either within a consultancy or mechanical contracting environment.
Working closely with theDesign Manager, you will play an important role in the technical delivery of the project, supporting the construction team and ensuring the mechanical services are coordinated, constructible and delivered in accordance with the project requirements.
As this is aConstruct Onlyproject, the role is focused on the technical delivery and coordination of the mechanical installation rather than responsibility for the overall design.
Key Responsibilities
Work closely with the Design Manager, site team, consultants and other project stakeholders to support the technical delivery of the mechanical services.
Review consultant design documentation, specifications and equipment selections to identify discrepancies, constructability issues and coordination requirements.
Coordinate mechanical services with architectural, structural, electrical, hydraulic, fire and other building services disciplines.
Raise and manage RFIs, technical queries and design clarifications with the consultant and project team.
Provide technical engineering support to the site team, assisting with the resolution of construction and installation issues.




Review supplier and subcontractor technical documentation and ensure proposed equipment and systems comply with the project requirements.
Assist with equipment procurement, technical evaluations and supplier coordination.
Support QA/QC processes, inspections, testing and verification of mechanical installations.
Assist with testing, commissioning and balancing activities and the resolution of commissioning issues.
Monitor technical deliverables and assist the Design Manager with managing engineering requirements throughout the project lifecycle.
Contribute to project documentation, including commissioning records, O&M; documentation and as-built information.
Work collaboratively with the construction team to ensure mechanical services are delivered safely, efficiently and in accordance with the approved design and project specifications.
About You
You will be a Mechanical Engineer with a background inbuilding services, ideally having gained experience either with a mechanical contractor or building services consultancy.
We are open to candidates with approximately2–10 years' experience, provided you have a strong understanding of building services and a genuine interest in working on complex mechanical construction projects.
You will ideally have:
A degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.




Minimum2 years' building services experiencewithin a consultancy or contractor environment.
Experience with HVAC and/or broader mechanical building services.
An understanding of mechanical services design, construction and coordination.
Strong technical problem-solving and communication skills.
The ability to work effectively with consultants, subcontractors, suppliers and site teams.
A practical, construction-focused approach to engineering.
Solid attention to detail and an ability to manage competing priorities.
Previous experience working onDefence, government, health, data centre, infrastructure or other complex/high-security projectswould be advantageous, but is not essential.
Security Requirements
Due to the nature of the projects, applicantsmust be Australian Citizensand be willing and eligible to undertake the process for anNV1 security clearance.
