What you'll be doing
The Director Medical Services (DMS) is a senior medical leadership position responsible for providing strategic, operational and professional leadership across medical services at Wagga Wagga Base Hospital, the largest referral hospital within Murrumbidgee Local Health District.
Working in partnership with executive, clinical and operational leaders, the DMS will lead the delivery of safe, high-quality, patient-centred healthcare while fostering excellence in medical workforce engagement, clinical governance, innovation and service development.
The role is responsible for supporting and developing a highly skilled medical workforce, strengthening medical engagement, leading quality and safety initiatives, and ensuring the effective management of medical services to meet the current and future healthcare needs of the community.

Wagga Wagga Base Hospital is a major regional referral and teaching hospital servicing communities across the Riverina.
Following a significant redevelopment, the hospital offers contemporary facilities and provides a comprehensive range of services including emergency medicine, critical care, surgery, medical specialties, maternity services, rehabilitation, cancer care and mental health services.

Selection Criteria
Applicants must:
Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators (FRACMA), or other appropriate specialist recognition as provided for in the Staff Specialists (State) Award, supported by relevant postgraduate qualifications and substantial senior medical leadership experience within a large base, referral or complex health service.
RACMA trainees with significant senior leadership experience and demonstrated progress towards Fellowship are encouraged to apply.
Demonstrated executive-level experience in medical leadership and management, including medical administration, workforce planning and management, clinical governance, health service operations, medical education, organisational performance and change leadership.
Highly developed communication, negotiation, stakeholder engagement and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to influence and collaborate effectively across all levels of healthcare,



government, professional organisations and the broader community.
Demonstrated ability to lead clinical governance, patient safety, clinical risk management and continuous quality improvement initiatives within a complex healthcare environment.
Proven ability to lead strategic and operational change, drive service improvement and implement innovative models of care that enhance patient outcomes and organisational performance.
Current Class C Drivers Licence and the ability to undertake travel as required.
Remuneration and incentives
Remuneration depends on your appointment type, award classification, and scope of practice.
The figures below areindicative onlyand represent what may be earned under applicable NSW Health awards and local arrangements.
Visiting Medical Officer (VMO) Specialist
Earn up to $******/hour (Specialist rate + practice rate), equating to $529,632 + super for eligible contracts (based on 40 hrs/week for 48 weeks).
Or progress to Senior Specialist VMO rates, earning up to $******/hour, which equates to $564,000 + super (based on 40 hrs/week for 48 weeks).
Staff Specialist
Staff Specialists receive the full entitlements of permanent NSW Health employment, including superannuation, leave benefits, salary packaging, relocation support (where applicable), and access to incentives.
Base salaries are determined under the Staff Specialists (State) Award, with indicative ranges from approximately $270,247 to $333,491 per annum + superannuation, depending on experience and allowances (based on a 40‐hour week).
