Queensland Ecologists is seeking aSenior Field Ecologistwith demonstrated Queensland-specific senior experience in flora and fauna.
This is a role for an established ecologist who can lead field work and deliver assessment-ready results across South East Queensland.
About the role
This is a hybrid role - your base is working from home, with field work across South East Queensland, concentrated around Brisbane, the Sunshine Coast and southern Brisbane.
You will plan and lead ecological surveys and habitat assessments, collect and interpret flora, fauna and habitat data, and prepare professional reports and mapping outputs that stand up to regulatory scrutiny.
You will work closely with our existing team and clients across a varied caseload.
Full-time is preferred, but we will consider part-time for the right person.
Key responsibilities
Plan and lead field work for ecological surveys and habitat assessments
Collect, analyse and interpret flora, fauna and habitat data
Contribute to environmental impact assessments and constraints analysis
Interpret Queensland and Commonwealth regulatory requirements
Prepare written reports and mapping outputs
Liaise with project managers, councils and clients
Support proposals, project design and career development
Work safely and independently in varied outdoor environments

What you need
Senior, Queensland-specific field experience in ecology (flora and fauna)- proven senior-level experience surveying and identifying Queensland flora and fauna (mandatory)
An undergraduate degreein ecology, environmental science, biology or a related discipline (essential)
Apostgraduate qualificationin a relevant field (preferred)
CEnvP accreditationhighly regarded, though not mandatory
Strong botany and wildlife knowledge with confident species identification
Report-writing proficiency for assessment and compliance documents
Environmental impact assessment experience and sound regulatory knowledge
Ability to work remotely and manage your own time independently
GIS and spatial tools competency (highly beneficial)
Current driver's licence and willingness to travel for field work across SEQ
Summary
We actively work with land owners, town planners, councils, state and federal authorities to achieve optimal enviornmental outcomes.
Our work is extremely varied, from leading a survey, report writing, through working with various government bodies to achieve positive environmental outcomes.
From day one you'll have strong Queensland plant and animal knowledge, along with strong Queensland government legislative understanding.
Ideally a strong working understanding of your local council planning scheme and experiene across a variety of planning schemes to demonstrate local government capability.
No specific planning scheme understanding is necessary, but knowing the who/what/where and when of planning schemes is important.
We generally don't get locked into significant long term projects, so your weeks will be quite varied - and we strongly support a work from home environment when you're not required in the field.
