You will play a critical role in re-establishing the underground ventilation system for a major silver-lead-zinc mine restart in Broken Hill, NSW.
With the mine having been unventilated since ****, you will support the progressive reopening of underground workings, bringing ventilation circuits back online and ensuring the mine can safely ramp up production from November ****.
Working as part of a newly established technical services team, you will be involved in ventilation system upgrades, fan replacements, commissioning and circuit optimisation.
You will work closely with mining and geotechnical teams as access to underground areas is progressively restored, with the longer-term opportunity to help manage ventilation challenges as mining advances deeper into the operation.
This is an initial six-month contract with a strong likelihood of extension.
You will work an 8/6 back-to-back roster on day shift, with 11-hour days and FIFO/DIDO arrangements available.
An October **** commencement is required to support the mine restart.
Key Responsibilities
Re-establish and optimise underground ventilation circuits
Support primary and secondary ventilation design and operation
Plan and coordinate fan replacements, installations and upgrades
Support commissioning and performance testing of ventilation equipment
Model and assess ventilation requirements as workings are reopened
Monitor ventilation performance and identify improvement opportunities
Work with mining and geotechnical teams to manage progressive re-entry
Develop ventilation strategies as mining advances into deeper areas
Support the management of heat and other ventilation-related risks
About you
Underground metals ventilation engineering experience
Solid knowledge of primary and secondary ventilation systems
Practical experience with fan installation, replacement or commissioning
Experience designing or substantially modifying ventilation circuits
Ability to work effectively in a progressively reopened mine
Strong understanding of ventilation risks and underground mine safety
Ventsim or equivalent ventilation modelling experience is advantageous
Deep or hot underground mine experience is highly regarded
Restart, re-entry or ventilation system rehabilitation experience is beneficial
