Modus Operandi Brewing
New South Wales
Personal Assistant & Business Support Coordinator
A note from Jaz, Co-Founder of Modus Brewing
Hi there,
If you've been keeping an eye on roles at Modus, you may have seen us advertise for a PA in the last year. Both people we've had in the role have unfortunately had to leave Newcastle due to family relocations and our current PA, Brooklyn, is very reluctantly one of them!
So, we're looking for our next
Personal Assistant & Business Support Coordinator
.
We've changed the title this time around because
Personal Assistant only really tells half the story.
Grant and I founded Modus Brewing in ****. Today, we're an independent beverage and hospitality business spanning Modus, NORT, two brewery venues, production, sales, marketing and operations.
And this role gets exposure to pretty much all of it.
Yes, you'll be our PA. You'll help manage diaries, emails, travel, appointments and the occasional personal job that keeps two founders with a young family functioning.
But the other half is
Business Support
.
You'll work closely with us and across the wider business -venues, operations, sales, marketing and the office -helping keep the things that sit between departments organised and moving.
You'll own our Employment Hero platform, including onboarding and off-boarding, employee records and making sure our HR and payroll processes are running properly through the system. You'll keep on top of company administration, vehicles, insurances, maintenance, systems and documents. You'll chase things that need chasing, solve the little problems before they become big ones and generally help keep the wheels turning.
We don't expect you to know how to do everything. We do expect you to be someone who figures things out.
It's fast-paced and no two days are particularly alike. You'll need common sense, initiative, discretion, a great sense of humour and a willingness to roll up your sleeves when something needs doing.
In return, it's a pretty unique seat inside an Australian founder-led business and a chance to understand how all the pieces of a business like ours actually fit together.
A word from Brooklyn, who's currently in the role...
"Hi, I'm Brooklyn! I can honestly say there are not many places like Modus! It's a very rapid-paced role and you'll definitely need to be ready to roll up your sleeves, but the people, the team (and the dogs!) are one of a kind and I've loved every second of being part of it.
I'm only leaving because I'm moving out of the areabut I'm actually staying on within the Modus family so you'll still see me around the place!"
What you'll actually be doing
Supporting Grant and me across our day-to-day business and personal lives.
Managing diaries, emails, travel, appointments and priorities.
Providing business support across our venues, operations, sales, marketing and office.
Owning Employment Hero internally:onboarding, off-boarding,
employee records and making sure our HR and payroll processes are flowing through the platform correctly.
Managing company administration including vehicles, registrations, insurances, documents and Google Workspace.
Keeping on top of venue, office and brewery maintenance schedules.
Organising team events and jumping into the random things that inevitably pop up in a founder-led business.
Most importantly:
seeing what needs doing, owning it and following it through.
Who we're looking for
You might already be a PA, EA, Office Coordinator or Business Support Coordinator. Or you might come from a fast-paced operational or hospitality environment and know you're ready for something different.
We're also very open to someone with more experience who may be looking for
four days a week
rather than a traditional five-day role.
Either way, you'll be highly organised, switched on and comfortable juggling lots of moving pieces. You won't wait to be told every next step. You'll ask questions when you need to, use your initiative when you don't and genuinely enjoy making things run better.
Experience with Employment Hero, Google Workspace, Xero, Trello, Salesforce or similar systems is useful, but we can teach systems.
Common sense, initiative and attitude are much harder to teach.
The good stuff
You'll get generous monthly venue credit, an extra two days of leave each year, plenty of variety and genuine exposure to every part of the business.
You'll also get Yuko, our black lab brewery dog, as a colleague. Arguably the best perk.
Beer First. No Shortcuts.
