General Hand / Crematorium Operator
at Mt Thompson Memorial Gardens & Crematorium.

We're looking for someone who is practical, reliable, respectful and comfortable working independently, with full training provided.
The Opportunity
As part of the Mt Thompson team, you'll play an important behind-the-scenes role in ensuring cremation services and the memorial grounds operate smoothly and respectfully.
Your days will be varied, combining crematorium operations, grounds and facility maintenance, administration and supporting funeral services.
You'll work closely with Funeral Directors and the wider team, helping ensure every service is carried out with the care, dignity and attention to detail families deserve.
What You'll Be Doing
Operating and monitoring cremation equipment following detailed procedures and safety requirements
Carefully managing and recording ashes throughout the cremation process
Supporting the daily cremation schedule and working alongside Funeral Directors and operational teams
Completing general maintenance, cleaning and presentation of the crematorium and surrounding grounds
Monitoring equipment and reporting any maintenance or operational issues
Completing basic administration and computer-based records
Assisting with the smooth running of funeral services and the site as required
Ensuring the crematorium and grounds are maintained to a high standard at all times
What We're Looking For
This could suit someone from a hands-on, operational or service-based background who is looking for something different and more meaningful.




You may have experience in:
Groundskeeping, landscaping or parks and gardens
Facilities or property maintenance
Warehousing, logistics or operations
Hospitality or customer service
Healthcare, aged care or community services
Funeral services or crematorium operations
Funeral industry experience is not essential – your attitude, reliability and willingness to learn are what matter most.

Is respectful, compassionate and comfortable working in a sensitive workplace
Has excellent attention to detail and takes pride in their work
Is practical and hands-on, and isn't afraid to get stuck in
Can follow processes carefully and consistently
Is comfortable working independently and taking ownership of their day
Has good computer skills and can confidently complete records and administration
Is reliable, professional and able to maintain confidentiality
Is comfortable working around deceased persons and understands the importance of treating every individual with dignity
