Technical Writer – Machinery & Operations
Help us make complex machinery simple to operate.
Stacked Farm designs, builds and operates highly automated indoor vertical farms, using proprietary technology to control the journey from seed to finished product.
Our next major farm in Melbourne takes that technology to another level. We're looking for a Technical Writer to help make the machinery behind it simple to operate, maintain and troubleshoot.
In ****, Stacked Farm was recognised by TIME and Statista, the Australian Financial Review, InnovationAus and the global FoodTech 500 for our technology, innovation and sustainability.
The Opportunity
This is a six-month fixed term contract working alongside our Engineering, Operations, Projects, Compliance, P&C;, WH&S; and Training teams.
Your mission:
Capture what our teams know and turn it into documentation that helps people operate, maintain and troubleshoot our machinery with confidence.
You'll create and improve Operation and Maintenance manuals, machinery guides, SOPs, troubleshooting material, preventative maintenance documentation and quick-reference guides.
You won't be starting from scratch. We already have engineering drawings, technical information, existing documentation and experienced people who know our systems inside out. We need you to ask the right questions, bring structure to that knowledge and turn it into documentation people can actually use.
This is a hands-on role based primarily at our Arundel facility, with some flexibility for hybrid work where it meets operational requirements.

What You'll Do
Create and improve Operation and Maintenance manuals, machinery guides, SOPs and preventative maintenance documentation.
Spend time on the floor understanding how our machinery and production processes actually work.
Work collaboratively with engineers, technicians and operators to capture their knowledge.
Turn complex technical information, drawings and specifications into clear, practical instructions.
Develop troubleshooting guides, quick-reference material, diagrams and flowcharts.
Review existing documentation, identify gaps and establish practical document-control and version-management standards.
Test documentation with the people who use it and improve it based on feedback.
Work closely with our compliance team to support training, onboarding and knowledge transfer.
About You
You don't need to know our machinery on day one. We care more about your ability to learn quickly, ask smart questions and turn complicated information into documentation that is clear, accurate and easy to follow.
You'll ideally need:
Experience writing technical manuals, SOPs, procedures, training material or operational documentation.
Excellent writing,

editing and proofreading skills.
A knack for simplifying complex or incomplete information.
Confidence working with engineers, technicians, operators and other subject-matter experts.
Excellent attention to detail, organisation and the ability to manage your own workload.
Experience with document control, templates or version management.
Experience interpreting engineering drawings, specifications or schematics would be useful. Experience in machinery, manufacturing, automation, engineering, food production or another technical workplace would also be valuable.
Don't tick every box? Apply anyway. We're not looking for a perfect CV. If you're a strong technical writer, documentation specialist, engineer, operations professional or come from an adjacent technical field and think you could do this job well, we'd still love to hear from you.
Why Stacked Farm?
Work on genuinely interesting technology.
Our teams design and build proprietary automation and machinery for a completely different way of growing food.
See your work in action.
You'll work directly with the machinery and the people operating it.
Own something meaningful.
Farm teams will use what you create every day.
Help us scale.
The documentation standards you build will support Melbourne and future Stacked Farm facilities.
Take on a defined six-month mission.
Come in, get under the hood, build something valuable and leave a lasting impact.
