An established and growing Australian business operating within the
mining and resources sector
is seeking an experienced and commercially astute
Chief Financial Officer
to join its senior leadership team.
Based in the
Mudgee vicinity
, this is a pivotal appointment that will see you work directly with the CEO to help shape the organisation's future financial and commercial direction.
This is not simply a financial reporting role.
We are looking for a CFO who can become a genuine
strategic partner to the CEO
- someone who understands the numbers but, more importantly, can use them to challenge thinking, identify opportunities, improve commercial outcomes and support the continued growth and strengthening of the business.
The Opportunity
The business has established a strong position within its market and is entering an important stage of its continued development.
Reporting directly to the CEO, you will take ownership of the finance function while providing high-level commercial and strategic advice across the organisation.
Leading a finance team of three, you will ensure the fundamentals of the finance function are performed to a high standard while developing the reporting, analysis, systems and commercial insights required to support a growing business.
You will also work closely with the organisation's
external accountants and professional advisors
, ensuring the business benefits from a coordinated approach to financial management, compliance, taxation and strategic planning.
Given the asset-intensive nature of the organisation, the role will focus strongly on
capital management, asset performance, cash flow, funding and return on investment
.
Key Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include:
Acting as a trusted financial and commercial partner to the CEO.
Providing strategic advice to support growth, profitability and the long-term financial position of the business.
Leading budgeting, forecasting, cash-flow management and longer-term financial planning.
Developing financial models and commercial analysis to support major business and investment decisions.




Providing clear and meaningful management reporting to improve visibility of business performance.
Analysing profitability, margins, costs and key financial and operational performance drivers.
Providing commercial insight into capital expenditure, asset investment, utilisation and return on investment.
Supporting funding, financing and capital-management decisions.
Identifying opportunities to improve profitability, efficiency and financial performance.
Strengthening financial systems, processes, controls and governance as the organisation continues to grow.
Leading, mentoring and developing a finance team of three.
Partnering with external accountants, banks, financiers and other professional advisors.
Overseeing financial reporting, taxation, compliance and statutory requirements.
Providing commercial input into contracts, pricing and new business opportunities.
Supporting the CEO in assessing strategic opportunities, commercial risks and future growth initiatives.
About You
You will be an experienced finance professional who combines strong financial capability with
commercial judgement and strategic thinking
.
You are likely to have operated as a CFO, Head of Finance, Financial Controller or senior commercial finance leader and be ready to take genuine ownership of the financial and commercial function.
Importantly, you will be comfortable working in an environment where the CFO is expected to be
close to the business
. You will enjoy understanding how the organisation operates, what drives profitability and where opportunities exist to improve performance.
Ideally, you will bring:
Significant senior finance leadership experience.
CA, CPA or equivalent professional qualifications.
Strong commercial, strategic and financial acumen.
Experience partnering directly with a CEO, Managing Director or business owner.




Experience within an asset-intensive business environment.
Exposure to mining, resources, heavy equipment, equipment hire, civil, construction, transport or related industries will be highly regarded.
Strong budgeting, forecasting, cash-flow and financial modelling skills.
Experience assessing capital expenditure and investment decisions.
An understanding of asset financing and capital management.
The ability to interpret financial information and turn it into practical commercial recommendations.
Strong leadership and people-management capability.
Confidence working with external accountants, financiers and professional advisors.
A pragmatic, collaborative and solutions-focused approach.
