About the role
The Lung Transplant Clinical Research Fellow position will involve working closely with senior clinical researchers in expanding research output in the lung transplantation field.
It is expected that during their time in this role, a lung transplant-focused PhD will be completed, with a plan to utilise specimens from local biobanks and/or the creation of animal models and Ex-Vivo Lung Perfusion for basic science research.
The fellow will also be responsible for review of lung transplant patients enrolled in clinical trials.
The Lung Transplant Clinical Research Fellow will attend lung transplantation outpatient clinics and is responsible for patient assessment and management; communication of assessment/management decisions to other staff involved in the patients care, communication with the patient and / family regarding the patient's condition and management plans, maintenance of accurate and relevant patient documentation, coordination of diagnostic tests and consultations, arrangement of patient discharge process and liaison with GPs and other community care services to ensure the provision of optimal patient care to patients presenting to St. Vincent's Hospital.
The Lung Transplant Clinical Research Fellow is delegated responsibility and authority to provide safe, effective and individual patient care both directly and through the allocated junior medical officers by teaching and directing, supervising and ensuring their performance.
Applicants for this position should have completed or will have completed advanced training in Thoracic Medicine with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians,



and either completed or currently enrolled in a higher degree research PhD program.
The duties and responsibilities of the position will include completion of lung transplant focused research either utilising the lung transplant biobank or performing basic science experiments including animal models and Ex-ViVo Lung Perfusion.
It will also include clinical assessment and management of post lung transplant patients and review of lung transplant patients enrolled in clinical trials.
Applicants will be expected to work within the framework of the philosophy and policies of the Hospital to provide and maintain a high quality of individual patient care.
They will provide an educational environment for junior medical, nursing and allied health staff assigned to the Department, and also to supervise and complete accurate and comprehensive medical records.

Selection Criteria
MBBS or equivalent, currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia
Has achieved fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in Respiratory medicine
Prior clinical experience in a lung transplant unit is essential.
Completion or current enrolment in a PhD with a focus on clinical lung transplantation, animal models for thoracic transplantation or Ex-Vivo Lung Perfusion.
Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgment and expertise.
Demonstrated teamwork, time management and problem solving skills as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Demonstrated excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and computer skills.
