Background
The Clinical Research Centres (CRC), located at both The Children's Hospital at Westmead (CHW) and the Sydney Children's Hospital (SCH), conducts a wide variety of clinical research through a network of researchers and health professionals across the SCHN. Under the umbrella of Kids Research, the CRCs aims to translate new evidence into clinical care and treatment at both sites.
The Role
The Clinical Trials Start-Up Manager will work across the SCHN at the following campuses, to lead and support clinical research start up activities, specific to the CRCs:
The Children's Hospital at Westmead (CHW)
Sydney Children's Hospital (SCH)
This role encompasses managing administrative functions that support clinical research and the broader organisational unit, while fostering strong, professional relationships with sponsors, investigators, supporting departments, collaborators, and their teams through clear, consultative communication. The position also involves identifying opportunities to enhance processes across SCHN to improve quality, compliance, efficiency, and consistency in start up operations.
Day To Day Accountabilities Include
Providing leadership, oversight and management of study start up activity from point of initial site approach, through to Research Governance Office (RGO) authorisation
Supporting feasibility assessments where required
Manage complex budget negotiations
Accurately negotiate, draft and finalise supporting department agreements
Review Clinical Trial Research Agreements in line with site expectations and local governance requirements
Build and manage studies in the Clinical Trials Management System(CTMS) as per local site practices
Maintain an up to date understanding of the legal, ethical, and regulatory frameworks governing clinical research and applying this knowledge to informed decision making.
Preparation and submission of ethics and governance applications according to site and sponsor timelines
Provide continued support and encourage collaboration within the CRC start up team
Support the development and implementation of start-up systems and processes within the CRC
Financial management responsibilities related to study start up
Conduct productive and accurate study handovers to clinical teams as required
Display high standards of accuracy and timeliness
Undertake additional duties aligned with the role's classification
What You'll Be Doing
The Clinical Trials Start-Up Manager will be responsible for supporting the clinical trials team, The Sydney Children's Hospitals Network (SCHN), Investigators, Collaborators and network research staff in the establishment of clinical trials being conducted within SCHN. The incumbent will take responsibility for study start up activities to ensure that SCHN is competitively placed to attract cutting-edge research opportunities and will support best practice in clinical research start-up.
The primary purpose of this role is to contribute actively to the provision of high-quality research activities at the Sydney Children's Hospitals Network (SCHN).
