About the Role This is a site leadership position.
You'll be accountable for the delivery of industrial coatings scopes, primarily on mine sites; leading your crew, QA/QC compliance and serving as the primary interface between Hughes Engineering and our clients on site.
You'll work across multiple scope deliveries that includes abrasive sand blasting, ultra-high pressure water blasting, polyurea application and various protective coatings, with a strong specialisation in tank refurbishments and structural steel remediation.
At times you'll coordinate across hybrid coatings and engineering teams on structural steel scopes.
A strong projects team will work alongside you, handling project management,
technical support and administration.
You're supported, not isolated.
But scope delivery, crew leadership and client accountability on the ground are yours.
Key Responsibilities Lead coatings crews across surface preparation and surface treatment including different specialist applications QA/QC compliance; application reports, DFT readings, hold points, inspection documentation and client reporting Serve as the primary client contact on site; scope adherence, variations, technical queries and progress reporting Apply working knowledge of Australian Standards and coating specifications to guide decisions and resolve issues in the field Manage daily operations; toolbox talks, JHAs, TBRA's, permits, prestart checks and workforce sequencing Mentor and develop Leading Hands and crew Deliver accurate weekly reports and maintain complete, compliant site documentation Drive safety culture proactively across your team What You Bring Required : Certificate III in Surface Preparation or equivalent — or demonstrated supervisory experience in industrial coatings Proven background in mining or heavy industrial coatings, including tank refurbishments structural steel remediation.
Polyurea application advantageous Practical experience with UHP water blasting operations Strong working knowledge of Australian Standards, coating specifications and QA/QC requirements White Card | Working at Heights ( 2 yrs) | Confined Space Gas Testing ( 2 yrs) High Risk Work License — LF and/or EWP C Class License (HR preferred) National Police Clearance (within 6–12 months) Pre-employment medical including drug and alcohol screening Advantageous: Schedule 26 WHS Statutory Supervisor Certificate UHP Water Blasting Operator ticket NACE Level 1 or Level 2 Certification HR or MC License Technical Background - Working Supervisor Capability Hands-on experience in abrasive blasting, UHP water blasting, surface preparation and coating application to specification Ability to troubleshoot application and equipment issues in the field and guide crews through technical challenges in real time Competent in mixing ratios, batch verification, coating thickness tolerances and environmental condition assessment Familiar with QA/QC documentation at trade level; DFT readings, coating application reports, batch records and hold point processes Capable of stepping in on the tools when operationally required; this is a supervisory role, but your crew may sometimes need you to step in and lead the way.
