The Role We are seeking an experienced and passionate Chef to join our team at Little Assets Early Learning Kew.
The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, preparing and providing nutritious, seasonal meals and snacks for children while ensuring all dietary, medical, cultural and individual food requirements are appropriately managed.
Key responsibilities include: Develop and prepare seasonal, nutritious and varied menus suitable for young children.
Prepare daily meals and snacks in accordance with the centre's menu and children's nutritional needs.
Ensure individual dietary requirements, allergies, medical conditions, cultural requirements and food preferences are appropriately considered and managed.
Maintain high standards of food safety, hygiene, cleanliness and kitchen organisation.
Follow the centre's Food Safety Program and all relevant food safety requirements.
Maintain appropriate records relating to food preparation, food safety and dietary requirements.
Build positive relationships with children, educators, families and the wider centre community.
Create positive and engaging experiences around food and mealtimes.
Conduct weekly cooking experiences/classes with children and support their learning through food preparation.
Work collaboratively with educators to incorporate food experiences into the children's educational program.
Ensure the kitchen, equipment, storage areas and food preparation spaces are maintained to a high standard.
Monitor food supplies and assist with ordering and stock management.
Ensure all food is prepared, stored and served safely and appropriately.
What We Are Looking For The successful candidate will have: Certificate III in Commercial Cookery or higher qualification.
Current Food Safety Supervisor Certificate.
Experience working in a commercial kitchen, preferably within an early childhood education and care environment.
Sound knowledge of food safety, hygiene and safe food handling practices.
Understanding of children's nutritional needs and age-appropriate meals.
Ability to cater for allergies, medical dietary requirements, cultural requirements and individual food preferences.
Current Working with Children Check or relevant state equivalent.
Current Mandatory Reporting/Child Protection training.
Strong organisational and time-management skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
A genuine interest in supporting children's learning and wellbeing through positive food experiences.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
