The Chance
As the Senior Advisor HSE Operations, you will play a pivotal role supporting Rolling Stock, Network Presentation and Stores, including oversight of the Dry Creek Depot and broader network facilities.
Acting as a trusted advisor to Delivery Function Directors, you will influence key decisions, embed a strong safety culture, and ensure the effective implementation of legislative requirements, safety management systems, and Zero Harm objectives.
This is a highly visible role where your expertise will directly shape safe, compliant, and high-performing operations.
You will lead critical initiatives across facilities management, heavy maintenance, contractor governance, and emergency preparedness, while proactively identifying and managing operational risks.
Partnering closely with operational leaders, you'll drive continuous improvement and create safer environments for employees, contractors, and the public.
This role also offers the prospect to mentor and uplift teams, leaving a lasting impact on safety capability and performance across the network.
Key Responsibilities
Drive innovation, continuous improvement, and change management initiatives, while actively building team capability
Provide expert advice, guidance and identification of improvement opportunities to business leaders and their teams
Actively support and contribute to environment and sustainability initiatives and driving continuous improvement in sustainability practices within your function and the broader network
Provide expert HSE advice to Delivery Function Directors across Rolling Stock, Network Presentation & Stores, including depot operations, facilities, plant and equipment, and contractor-delivered services
Influence decision-making and manage risks associated with facilities, infrastructure assets, hazardous chemicals, and contractor activities
Educate and mentor leaders and teams on HSE matters, with a focus on safe facility operations and contractor oversight
Provide specialist advice on heavy maintenance activities within depot/shed environments, including safe interaction between workers, rolling stock and machinery
Identify and manage risks associated with working at heights, fall hazards, and access to rolling stock (e.g. roof work, gantries, platforms)
Actively participate in Zero Harm initiatives to promote a safe and sustainable work environment
Support functional Director's development of safety business plans aligned to operational risks within facilities and rolling stock environments
Support the development, implementation and review of Secure Work Instructions and Method Statements (SWIMs) for the operational functions.
Lead or support incident management investigations to identify root causes and corrective actions.
About You
Demonstrated understanding of relevant Work Health and Safety and Environmental Legislation and ISO Standards (i.e. ISO *****)
Diploma, Degree, or Certification in Health & Safety, Risk Management or a related field (or equivalent)
Experience working within safety-critical and high-risk industries, preferably rail, mining, construction or infrastructure
Proven experience leading and managing an inclusive, engaged, and high-performing team
Demonstrated experience in facilities management and/or working in heavy maintenance or workshop environments, with exposure to rolling stock, plant or similar industrial operations
Strong knowledge of hazardous chemicals and dangerous goods management, including storage, handling and compliance requirements
Strong understanding of working at heights, fall prevention and fall arrest systems, including inspection and compliance requirements
Proven capability in emergency management, preparedness and response planning, including drills and incident coordination
Experience managing plant and equipment safety, including maintenance and compliance obligations
Familiarity with maintenance safety practices, including lock out/ tag out (LOTO), permits to work, task-based risk assessments and high-risk work controls
Must be able to obtain and maintain a Track Safety Health Assessments (Category 3 Medical)
Rail Industry Worker Card (eligibility and wiliness to attain)
