About the roleMiChoice Disability Supports is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Disability & Mental Health Support Person to join our NDIS registered team in Toowoomba, QLD.
This is a casual position offering stable working arrangements to support individuals with disabilities and mental health challenges.
In this role, you will play a vital part in enabling people to live independently, participate in their communities, and achieve their personal goals.
You will work directly with participants to provide practical support, encouragement and companionship whilst promoting dignity, choice and inclusion.
Key responsibilities
Provide direct, hands-on support to participants with disabilities and mental health needs in their homes and community settings
Assist with daily living activities including personal care, meal preparation, budgeting and household management
Support participants to access community activities, appointments and social engagement opportunities
Develop and maintain positive, respectful relationships with participants, building trust and understanding their individual needs and preferences
Assist participants in developing life skills and independence within a supportive environment
Document and communicate participant progress, observations and any concerns in accordance with organisational procedures
Work collaboratively with families, carers, support coordinators and allied health professionals to ensure consistent and holistic support
Maintain participant confidentiality and adhere to safeguarding and duty of care principles
Respond sensitively to mental health crises or challenging behaviours,



using de-escalation techniques as appropriate
Contribute to a culture of respect, inclusion and person-centred practice
What we're looking for
Genuine passion for supporting people with disabilities and mental health challenges
Robust interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build rapport and maintain professional boundaries
Patience, empathy and a non-judgmental approach to supporting diverse individuals
Physical capability to assist with personal care and mobility support when required
Flexibility and adaptability to work with varying participant needs and preferences
Ability to maintain confidentiality and respect participant privacy
Reliable and punctual
A current Working with Children Check (or willingness to obtain one) and current Police Clearance or willingness to obtain both
experience advantages, however, not required; On job training provided
Knowledge of person-centred practice and the NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme) would be advantageous, however will be provided
Current First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to undertake training)
Current driver's licence and reliable access to transport would be beneficial
Worker screening (yellow) card (or willingness to obtain one)
