Position Summary
Submarine Instructors deliver technical submarine training for operators and maintainers of the Collins Class Submarine (CCSM) in accordance with the Submarine Training Services Contract.
Instructors may be allocated to deliver courses in a variety of subjects, depending on their skills, qualifications and experience.
The Chance
Reporting to the Senior Submarine Instructor, you will deliver high-quality training to Navy personnel ranging from new entrants to experienced submariners undertaking career progression and recertification programs.
Using your technical expertise and operational experience, you will:
Deliver classroom, practical and simulator-based training.
Facilitate learning using specialist training aids, equipment and submarine simulators.
Assess trainee competency against approved Defence standards.
Coach and mentor trainees while modelling the values and culture of the Royal Australian Navy Submarine Service.
Develop, review and maintain training materials, assessments and courseware.
Support continuous improvement initiatives across the training system.
Maintain vocational and instructional currency through ongoing professional development and engagement with the submarine enterprise.
About You
You are a technically capable and respected submarine professional who is passionate about sharing knowledge and developing others.
You will bring:
Essential Qualifications
Certificate IV in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent Marine Technician qualification.
Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE***** or equivalent), or willingness to commence on employment.
Relevant Defence or industry technical qualifications aligned to submarine mechanical systems.
Essential Experience and Skills
Minimum six years' experience as a Marine Technician or within a closely related technical discipline.
Strong knowledge of submarine propulsion, auxiliary and mechanical systems.
Excellent communication, presentation and facilitation skills.
Ability to build rapport and positively influence learners from diverse backgrounds and experience levels.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality, safety and compliance.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a Defence and customer-focused environment.
Highly Regarded
Collins Class Submarine qualification.
Sea-going experience as an RAN submariner.
Experience delivering technical training within Defence, maritime or industrial environments.
Allied submarine, naval or relevant maritime industry experience.
