Salary/Level: Specified Calling Level 3, $133,733 - $147,446 p.a. plus Superannuation
Tenure: Permanent, Full time
Location: Kensington, Western Australia
The Species and Communities Program coordinates the listing, management and recovery of threatened species, ecological communities and wetlands.
The program provides policy, strategic and technical advice on fauna, flora, ecological community and wetland conservation, and manages projects for the promotion of conservation on land not managed by the department.
We currently have an opportunity for a Senior Conservation Ecologist to join our team.
This position leads the ongoing conservation and management of conservation significant ecological communities.
This is through development of recovery plans, conservation programs, written reports, policy development expert advice, and input to other processes as they arise.
The position in liaises with departmental staff, recovery teams and external stakeholders as required.

Selection Criteria




Significant experience as a botanist or ecologist and high-level understanding of ecological communities, including demonstrated knowledge of threatened ecological communities (ESSENTIAL) with experience in preparation and evaluation of recovery programs (DESIRABLE).
Demonstrated high level ability in developing advice to inform and guide ecological community conservation to achieve biodiversity conservation goals (ESSENTIAL) and in the context of relevant environmental legislation and policy (DESIRABLE).
High level verbal and written communication skills to effectively translate complex scientific information to a range of audiences, liaise with stakeholders, prepare reports, and develop ecological community recovery programs.
Well-developed interpersonal and organisational skills, with experience in managing a team, empowering staff to and achieve agreed priorities, and build relationships to deliver outcomes.
