Job description:
About the role
WorkSafe Victoria is on the hunt for an Ergonomist to join the Specialist Services team as part of the Field Operations division.
The Ergonomist, as an appointed Inspector, provides specialist knowledge and advice in ergonomics / human factors, participating in the identification of workplace interventions relevant to the management and prevention of musculoskeletal disorders and poor psychological health outcomes.
Key Accountabilities
- Provide expert technical and operational advice to WorkSafe Victoria and its diverse clients in relation to human factors and ergonomic issues in the workplace.
- Identify current and emerging issues in specific industries and contribute to the development of risk minimisation strategies appropriate to type, demographics and the economics applicable to the industries and specific workplaces.
- Contribute to the development, implementation, co-ordination, and evaluation of ergonomic hazard-based programs.
- Participate in investigations and prosecutions and act as an expert witness.
- Contribute to the development and provision of technical advice and information for Senior Management and other WorkSafe Victoria staff on a broad range of ergonomics issues.

About you
You are an experienced Ergonomist who wants to make a difference. Your communication and organisational skills are exemplary – You have a passion for Victorians returning home safe from work every day. You are a team oriented person who enjoys making an impact on your team and stakeholders. Additionally, you will possess:
- Demonstrated experience in the development, co-ordination and evaluation of hazard based programs and strategies that aim to reduce the incidence and severity of work related injury and disease.
- Good analytical and problem solving skills, including demonstrated ability to interpret technical information/complex data and make strategic recommendations.
- Ability to participate in the development of policies, legislation and guidance material.
- Knowledge and experience in the interpretation of health and safety legislation and related policy.
Qualifications
- A degree, diploma or certificate in ergonomics or human factors
- A degree in a relevant discipline such as science, health science, psychology or engineering, that includes a significant formal component in ergonomics.
- Eligibility for membership of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society of Australia Inc.
- A post graduate qualification in human factors / ergonomics will be looked at favourably but not essential.
