We are looking for a Financial Controller to join our Brisbane Office. The Financial Controller will support the Head of Finance with financial reporting, taxation compliance and team management.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
You will be joining a highly efficient finance team and coming with a background in professional services or legal will be highly advantageous.
The Financial Controller will be responsible for carrying out the day to day accounting function including:
- Preparation and review of monthly management accounts including Profit & Loss and Balance Sheet
- Maintain balance sheet reconciliations e.g. fixed assets, leases (IFRS16), prepayments, accruals, intercompany, capital and drawings
- Ensure that adequate funding is available to meet working capital requirements
- Working with Business Services Heads to prepare annual budgets and quarterly forecasts
- Reviewing monthly management accounts with Business Services Heads, highlighting key performance indicators, variances and recommended actions
- Preparing monthly variance analysis commentary to Central Finance Team
- Ensuring bank covenants are met and quarterly financial statements provided in accordance with facility agreements
- Maintaining bank guarantee arrangements for premiseslease obligations
- Managing cash distribution between entities as required (limit overdraft utilisation, process service fees and reconcile intercompany loans)
- Managing the administration of online banking platforms
- Preparation of annual statutory accounts
- Preparation of group to local reconciliations
- Preparation of group consolidation packs for Australian entities as part of the International consolidation process
- Preparation of information for annual audit, liaising with Auditors
- Preparation and calculation of monthly Service Trust invoices/recharges, ensuring compliance with ATO guidelines
- Liasing with partners and their financial advisors on drawings, distributions, interest and income tax
- Reviewing and approving monthly BAS lodgement and reconciliation of VAT accounts
- Reviewing FBT returns and liaising with external advisers
- Assisting with the preparation of annual Income Tax Returns for all entities
- Supporting on ad hoc tax queries including stamp duty, transfer pricing, double taxation agreements and withholding tax
- Leading and mentoring direct reports and broader finance team to share knowledge and assist professional development
ABOUT YOU
To be successful in this position you will:
- Ideally have 5+ years' experience in a similar role within a legal or professional service environment.
- CA or CPA qualified
- Pride themselves on accuracy, excellent organisational skills, ability to work to tight deadlines and remain calm under pressure.
- Have the ability to work autonomously as well as part of a virtual team.
- Be a proactive team player with a commitment to delivering exceptional client service.
- Be proficicient with Microsoft Office suite of products and experience using Elite (or a similar medium to large Practice Management System) would be highly advantageous.
