The Division

The Greater Sydney Division is redefining integrated transport choices to improve the lives of customers and communities, making Greater Sydney a better place to live, work and play. We have the single biggest place-making opportunity at Transport in the coming years, reshaping Greater Sydney into a metropolis of three cities – Eastern Harbour City, Central River City and Western Parklands City - whilst also overseeing the Greater Sydney region as a whole.

The prospect

We have a Permanent-term opportunity for a Senior Transport Operations Planner to join the Major Events, Customer Journey Planning (CJP) team within the Greater Sydney Division.

Working as a part of a small, specialised team, this role will see you formulate traffic and transport management plans for use by Transport for NSW in response to major events to achieve the goals of safe and successful events while minimising the impacts to the non-event community without compromising work health and safety standards. Some of the key responsibilities will be but are not limited to:

- Work cooperatively within a team, exchange information and assist other team members to achieve team objectives and work outcomes.




- Develop and review traffic & transport management plans for special events, regular consultation and collaboration with stakeholders and other government agencies and utilise data from relevant databases and systems
- Create, assess and coordinate multimodal end to end transport plan for major events in Greater Sydney and contribute towards TfNSW customer objectives
- Ensure ongoing and consistent development and maintenance of traffic management plans for special events, emergency management, road incidents and major projects through regular consultation with stakeholders and other government agencies.
- Work collaboratively with various external and internal stakeholders and represent TfNSW interests and values.
- Contribute to continuous improvement processes by providing input into policies and procedures relevant to the section and provide training for staff and other stakeholders during the planning processes.
- Ensure improvement of the plans and planning process through assisting the CJP operations staff during major planned events and major unplanned incidents by participating in the event/incident evaluation and debriefing process

About You

With demonstrated experience analysing complex and technical information on a wide range of topics the successful candidate will be highly organised with proven capabilities in managing conflicting and competing agendas of stakeholders and negotiating solutions. Resourceful in your approach to overcoming challenges, you will be a high-performing collaborative and autonomous worker with exceptional communication skills and an ability to produce consistently high-quality work, while maintaining a high degree of confidentiality, discretion, and judgment with a strong customer service approach.

Knowledge of the road and transport networks in Sydney and across NSW and experience in traffic and transport management would be prefered. Applicants with an associate degree in emergency management (or higher), or from a freight, rail, logistics or emergency services background with experience in operational planning or incident response are desireable.

A successful applicant will possess a valid Australian motor vehicle driver’s license and willingness to work outside regular working hours and travel on occasion will support your suitability.



Familiar working in a complex customer-focused and operational workplace with competing needs you will be confident in your ability to triage priorities and navigate a broad scope of work. A willingness to support others in the branch as well as the broader team when required is essential.

Salary And Benefits

Transport Grade 8 ($123,470 - $ 138,284) + Super and employer contributions
