- Base salary range: Level 4 $68,640 – $72,913 p.a. (pro rata) plus 17% superannuation

About the team
College Services provides academic administration and technical support services to the University’s schools, including Heads of School, academic staff and research students. The team is committed to providing effective and efficient services in support of the Schools’ and University’s strategic objectives, with a focus on continuous improvement and best practice.
The Materials and Environmental Analytical Platform enables the chemical analysis and physical characterisation of a variety of environmental materials including geological materials, soil, water and biota. In addition, this platform houses the Petrographic Preparation Facility, enabling the preparation of geological and other mineralised material for microscopic and the UWA X-ray Diffraction Facility catering for mineralogical analysis and structure determination using powder diffraction and single crystal diffraction instrumentation.
This platform provides a resource for both research staff and research students in the form of access, training and sample analysis service.
About the opportunity
In this position, under general direction, you will be required to conduct high quality elemental analysis of soil, water and plant material to support research and academic activities. You will be required to assist with the operation, training and supervision of users in the safe operation of analytical instrumentation, relevant protocols, procedures and preparative techniques.
In addition, you will be required to:
- Proactively maintain laboratory equipment.
- Maintain stocks of, and purchase chemicals and consumables to support analytical activities.
- Under direction, prepare and verify calibration solutions for a variety of instrumental techniques.
- Follow principles of good laboratory practice.
- Maintain and encourage a pro-active attitude to safety in the workplace at all times.
To be considered for this role, you will demonstrate :
- Year 12 or equivalent competency.
- Relevant practical experience in an analytical laboratory conducting nutrient and/or elemental analysis of soil, plant or water samples desirable
- Experience in nutrient analysis using flow injection instrumentation, or elemental analysis using ICP-OES as well as other wet chemical techniques desirable
- Experience in the use of laboratory instrumentation software.
- Attention to detail with a focus on data quality and workflow efficiency.
- Well-developed organisational skills and demonstrated ability to prioritise and meet deadlines.
- Well-developed skills in the use of Microsoft excel and other MS Office programs.
Note: A current “C” class manual drivers’ licence is a requirement of this position.
