️ **Spend a day by The Strand and make a difference for young people in Townsville!
**
Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation is looking for enthusiastic volunteers to join us for **Flip Flop Fiesta – a relaxed, beach-style Activity Day on Saturday, 26 September ****.**
Help young people connect, have fun, build confidence and feel like they belong through a day focused on **connection rather than competition**.
**There is no cost for volunteers to attend.
Lunch, refreshments, activities and equipment are provided.

**Saturday, 26 September ******
**Volunteer hours:** 8:30 am – 2:30 pm
**Location:** The Strand Park & Rockpool
Corner of Howitt Street & The Strand Rockpool
North Ward QLD ****
**Travel:** Direct to site
Please arrive by 8:30 am for a volunteer briefing.
### ️ What's Flip Flop Fiesta?
Young people will enjoy a variety of activities including:
- Bocce
- Jezzine Barracks Adventure Hunt
- Rockpool games
- The Strand Walk & Talk
- Our **Blue Zone** – a calm space with colouring, cards, building activities and low-pressure games
We'll also come together for a **KookaChat wellbeing session**, exploring resilience, mental health and positive coping strategies.
Every young person is encouraged to participate at their own pace.
### Your Role
You don't need to be a counsellor or have previous youth work experience.
As a volunteer, you'll:
- Welcome and connect with young people
- Encourage participation in activities
- Join in games, walks and conversations
- Support young people who prefer quieter activities in the Blue Zone
- Support our KookaChat wellbeing activity
- Offer encouragement and friendly check-ins
- Help create a secure, welcoming and inclusive environment
- Work alongside staff and fellow volunteers
Sometimes the most valuable thing you can do is **listen, include someone or simply spend time alongside them.

### Who We're Looking For
This could be a excellent fit if you:
- Enjoy connecting with young people
- Love relaxed outdoor and beach activities
- Are friendly, reliable and encouraging
- Are comfortable with both active and quieter activities
- Enjoy working as part of a team
- Want to make a difference in the Townsville community
**You must hold a current and valid Queensland Working with Children Check (Blue Card) to be considered.
**
Current volunteers must also complete our onboarding and screening requirements, including a **National Police Check at no cost to you**, before attending.

Your first step is to complete our online **Volunteer Registration Form via our website**.
Our Volunteering Team will then guide you through onboarding.
**Applying through SEEK alone does not register you as a Kookaburra Kids volunteer or confirm your place at Flip Flop Fiesta.

### You'll Be Supported
You'll never be volunteering alone.
You'll join up to 9 volunteers alongside a Regional Lead / Program Lead, Program Support and clinician, supporting up to 24 young people.
Lunch, snacks, refreshments, water and activity equipment are provided.
### About Kookaburra Kids
Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation supports young people aged **8–18** to build resilience, strengthen their mental health and wellbeing, develop positive help-seeking behaviours and create meaningful connections.
Our programs support young people impacted by **family mental illness, including young carers**,
as well as young people from **current and former Australian Defence Force families** navigating the unique challenges of Defence life.
Through camps, Activity Days and online Connect sessions, we combine evidence-based mental health education with fun, supportive and social experiences that help young people build confidence, practical coping skills and connections with peers.

A volunteer briefing will also be provided on the day by the program team, covering volunteer responsibilities, safety, safeguarding and important information for the activity.
