About the Team
The Infrastructure and Place (IP) division is in the process of delivering an ambitious and once-in-a generation multi-billion program of public infrastructure works which will ease congestion, improve safety, create new places and connect communities for generations to come. We are dedicated and passionate team that is proud of the work we do and the supportive and flexible team culture we have built. The role sits within the Rail Delivery Team, who lead the delivery of all rail projects to enable outcomes that meet client expectations and are fit for purpose, for now and the future.
The opportunity
The M6 Stage 1 Project will provide a new twin tunnel motorway connection between the M8 Motorway at Arncliffe and President Avenue Kogarah. The project has been awarded to our Design and Construct (D&C;) Contractor and will be the first stage in completing the missing link from southern Sydney to the Sydney motorway network, making journeys easier, faster and safer. It will allow users to bypass up to 23 sets of traffic lights on the Princess Highway between St Peters and Kogarah and remove more than 2,000 trucks a day from surface roads and help return local streets to local communities. Extra benefits to the community, to name a few, will include the provision of new shared cycle and pedestrian pathways, new intersection at President Avenue including the widening and raising of President Avenue at this location, new service utilities including a permanent power supply line, and adjustments to local roads in the project area.
The role is responsible for assisting in the development, implementation and management of all civil (including tunnel) related infrastructure or other projects in accordance with time, cost, quality and scope objectives to meet Transport and Government objectives.
Key responsibilities:
- Deliver multiple projects within work programs, including managing the development of operational and project scopes, business cases, project submissions, communications and reporting, project scheduling, and resourcing, so projects are safely delivered on time, on budget, and specified scope and quality outcomes.
- Manage stakeholder relationships through effective communication, negotiation and issues management to ensure stakeholders are engaged throughout the program and program deliverables are met.
- Develop detailed project budget and forecast cash flows/milestones from the approved budget, recommend approval of costs and variations, monitor and control project costs and report on expenditure.
- Coordinate and communicate engineering alternatives/options to non-technical audiences to ensure the Agency can provide safe and commercially viable solutions to engineering problems.
- Facilitate development and approval of project-specific quality, safety and environmental requirements, ensure compliance with all relevant safety and quality standards, facilitate environmental planning/approval and manage the implementation to ensure adherence to conditions of approval
- Determine project risks, develop a project risk management plan (RMP), facilitate the risk review process and manage, monitor and mitigate project risks through the RMP.
- Role model, promote and actively demonstrate the five ways of leading behaviours to deliver organisational outcomes for our customers, our people and communities for the Greater Good.
- Building productive, team-oriented and cooperative relationships within the team and with various stakeholders and service providers to ensure best practice project management while delivering complex and challenging projects.
- Ensuring projects managed are completed within required timeframes and meet required outcomes and quality standards, and are achieved at or below budget.
- Working across a range of disciplines to deliver consistently high-quality services.

About you
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in project management and/or demonstrated equivalent experience in managing programs or multiple interdependent projects.
- The role operates with autonomy in determining day to day work priorities within the context of an agreed work plan and in making associated decisions. Decisions on complex issues or those with political ramifications are referred to a higher level of authority.
- Civil or Structural engineering degree
- Experience Project Managing Roads, Structures (inc. Bridges) and Tunnelling Projects
Salary and benefits
The salary for this position is Grade 9 ($142,178 – $159,238) per annum plus superannuation and leave loading.
