Agency overview
Infrastructure Australia is an independent statutory body with a mandate to prioritise and advise on nationally significant infrastructure. Infrastructure Australia provides independent research and high-quality advice to the Australian Government on Australia's requirements for nationally significant infrastructure.
Primary purpose of the role
In 2022, an independent review of Infrastructure Australia’s mandate and functions was conducted. The review report made a number of recommendations to strengthen the organisation and the government response to the review sets out the government’s position, as guidance for Infrastructure Australia to implement the recommendations.
The implementation of the Review will necessitate a fundamental updating of Infrastructure Australia’s current product suite and the creation of new products. The Director – Strategic Programs, is responsible for the overall Program Management of the Infrastructure Australia Review Implementation Program, which includes a significant focus on new or improved products and stakeholder engagement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the development and implementation of the Infrastructure Australia Review Implementation Program.
- Take a collaborative, user-centred approach to product design and implementation.
- Work closely with Product Owners, Subject Matter Experts and cross-functional teams to deliver the program using Agile methodology to facilitate the exchange of information and support program delivery.
- Identify cross-product dependencies,
information/data flows and synergies to maximise efficiency.
- Assist to validate the value-chain of IA’s products and services, to ensure that all products are designed so that they appropriately interconnect and add upstream or downstream value to IA’s overall product suite.
- Monitor and evaluate all aspects of program implementation, including risk management, perks realisation, identify and address issues, assess program progress and effectiveness, and achieve program outcomes.
- Coordinate change management activities, such as communication, training and preparation of guidance materials.
- Manage the sourcing of procurement, engagement and ongoing relationships with specialist contractors required for the delivery of the work program.
- Adhere to and manage the work program in accordance with Infrastructure Australia’s Project & Portfolio Management Framework.
- Prepare documents and presentations to brief Infrastructure Australia’s senior executive and Board on program progress.
Essential Requirements:
- Tertiary qualifications in business administration, project/program management or similar.
- Demonstrated program or portfolio management skills, including the ability to lead consistent delivery of quality customer outcomes within tight deadlines across multiple concurrent streams of work.
- Demonstrated experience in product development following user-centred design principles.
- Highly experienced in Agile ways of working and methodologies gained through worked experience (ideally, but not essential, supported by formal qualifications).
- Experience managing projects and programs through complex governance and decision-making processes.
- Experience working with digital tools to support agile processes in a hybrid work setting.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate across functions to achieve shared strategic goals.
- Experience working with senior stakeholders, including Chief-level staff and Board members.
- Proven ability to lead teams, and manage consultants, advisors and contractors to achieve shared objectives
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including an ability to write succinctly, translate strategic goals into project plans and an ability to negotiate outcomes with challenging stakeholders.
