The Lecturer will have responsibility for coordinating placements for all Deakin School of Psychology clinical psychology training programs. Working with the Course Director of the clinical programs, the focus of this role will be to ensure trainees obtain high quality placements that are consistent with the requirements of the program. The appointee will also contribute to teaching, service and research in the professional psychology programs. The appointee will promote the School and maintain links and partnerships with relevant academic, industry and professional communities.
The incumbent may be required to provide some additional supervision to postgraduate professional students on placement as needed. They will coordinate, and participate in, other teaching and learning activities necessary to support students achieve on placement and forming part of Clinical Placement Unit requirements. In addition, they will be required to contribute to teaching in the Clinical Psychology Program and undertake research at a level consistent with the time fraction of the appointment.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Working with the Course Director and Director of Clinical and Community Partnerships, to develop and maintain relationships with agencies for the purpose of providing high quality professional placement opportunities for Master and Doctor of Psychology (Clinical) students.
- Developing and administering professional development programs for field supervisors in order to facilitate the growth of the number of placement supervisors in the region who meet the criteria for Registered Supervisor status as required by the Victorian Psychologist's Registration Board.
- Developing flexible-delivery course materials relating to placement requirements of the course, including online materials.
- Participating in developing and nurturing links and partnerships with industry, professional bodies and the wider community.
- Teaching in the area of clinical psychology at the undergraduate and postgraduate level that is consistent with the University’s principles of teaching, learning and the student experience.
- Implementing creative teaching practices to improve student success and engagement.
- Providing clear assessment criteria and timely feedback to learners to demonstrate learning outcomes.
- Developing effective assessment tasks and rubrics at the unit level.
- Assisting in applying industry, clinical and/or research practice into student learning experiences and resources.
- Supporting diverse learners by designing accessible and inclusive unit material and practices.
- Guiding students to appropriate support services where appropriate.
- Completing Graduate Certificate in Higher Education Learning and Teaching.
Key selection criteria for this role:
- PhD in a relevant discipline and/or other relevant qualifications and experience such as Master of Psychology (Clinical) and relevant experience in the field.
- Current registration as a Psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a proven ability to establish good working relationships with colleagues.
- Substantial experience in the supervision and training of clinical psychologists.
- Ability to contribute to community engagement for research and teaching.
- Capacity to contribute to leadership of teaching, research and/or administration.
- Ability to develop curricula and resources that reflect an understanding of clinical psychology, clinical assessment and intervention.
- Area of Endorsement in Clinical Psychology (desirable).
- Excellent record of scholarly learning and teaching in UG and/or PG programs, including innovative curriculum design (desirable).
- Capacity to supervise research students in the area of clinical psychology(desirable).
- Emerging reputation in research and scholarship through publications and/or exhibitions and/or success in obtaining external research funding (desirable).
