Purpose of the Position:
There is an exciting opportunity for an applicant with experience in Electrical Design Engineering to commence a career with Progress Rail and be at the forefront of alternative energy technology in Australia. The wining candidate will be integral member of an engineering team to deliver industry leading alternative energy solutions. The candidate will be responsible for the design integration of EMD Joule technology into existing locomotives.
Along with other leading industries, the rail industry is also transitioning into alternative energies to power rollingstock into the future, providing for reductions in emissions to the setting, as well as lower operating cost to the rollingstock operator.
Progress Rail is proud to offer the EMD Joule Battery Electric Locomotive series with a range in battery capacities to support a wide range of railway operations. Joule locomotives recover energy through dynamic braking and alternatively the batteries can be charged through our range of wayside charging options tailored to meet operational needs. Our growing family of zero exhaust emissions locomotives is just one way Progress Rail helps our customers achieve their sustainability goals.
Qualifications & Training for the role:
- Bachelor’s degree in your Engineering field, or relevant tertiary qualification with extensive rolling stock or alternative energy experience
- Membership of a professional institution (e.g. MIEAust) will be highly regarded.
- Ability to achieve RPEQ status in Queensland will be highly regarded.
- Meets Rail Safety Worker requirements for the role.
Experience:
- Experience (7yrs + preferred) in rolling stock design, build, test and commissioning, and / or maintenance.
- Proven ability to organize and prioritize tasks, be flexible and resourceful, proactive and professional in manner with a high degree of initiative
- Knowledge of relevant Australian and international rolling stock standards.
- Knowledge of engineering processes, including failure-reporting, investigations, and engineering change.
- Good working knowledge of the Microsoft suite of software.
- CAD/3D design software knowledge is desirable.
Specific:
- Delivers on engineering design change, FRACAS investigations and resolution of technical issues.
- Provides engineering support for major overhauls / in sourced work.
- Suggests process improvements to drive efficiency. Understands the need to address commercial reliability risks quickly.
- Considers whole life costs during all activities.
- Adhering to all standard practice procedures as outlined in the integrated management system.
- Complying with the requirements of the National Rail Safety Act, with respect to the obligations of Rail Safety Workers where applicable.
- Playing a positive role in supporting the organisational safety, quality and zero harm culture, which involves promoting and demonstrating safe behaviour and practices, identifying continuous improvement opportunities, reporting accidents and near misses and identifying hazards and unsafe acts.
- Considers safety during engineering design change (ALARP).
- Explores alternative and creative solutions to meeting the needs of the customer.
- Delivers to customer expectations and service standards, in the areas of timeliness, information transfer, availability and reliability.
- Provides expert technical information and / or reports to internal and external stakeholders.
- Ensures that engineering change does not compromise the compliance of the rolling stock to workplace or rail safety requirements.
