The OpportunityA position within a well-established, privately owned fabrication and manufacturing business.
This role sits at the intersection of production, planning, and supply chain, taking ownership of job coordination from sales handover through to delivery and invoicing.You'll be responsible for ensuring all production jobs are technically prepared, accurately costed from a materials perspective, and tracked through each stage of the workshop lifecycle — from procurement and cutting through to fabrication, finishing, and dispatch.This is a strong prospect for someone with a fabrication or trade background looking to transition off the tools into a coordination/planning pathway, while still leveraging their technical knowledge.Key ResponsibilitiesProduction & Job CoordinationPrepare and manage complete production job packs, ensuring all documentation, drawings, BOMs and instructions are accurate and workshop-readyTrack and maintain real-time job status across all stages: procurement, cutting, preparation, mark-up, welding, finishing and dispatchIdentify and escalate production risks, bottlenecks, or delays, working with planning and workshop teams to mitigate impact on deliveryPerform detailed material take-offs from drawings, generating accurate Bills of Materials aligned to fabrication tolerances and process requirementsDevelop efficient cutting lists, optimising material utilisation and reducing wasteDetermine appropriate sourcing strategy (processed vs parent material lengths)
in line with planning and workshop capabilityMaterial Take-Offs & Planning InputPerform detailed material take-offs from drawings, generating accurate Bills of Materials aligned to fabrication tolerances and process requirementsDevelop efficient cutting lists, optimising material utilisation and reducing wasteDetermine appropriate sourcing strategy (processed vs parent material lengths) in line with planning and workshop capabilityProcurement & Supply Chain CoordinationRaise and manage purchase orders for raw materials and consumablesLiaise with suppliers to ensure competitive pricing, correct specifications, and adherence to lead timesMonitor and expedite deliveries to ensure materials are available in line with production schedulesWorkshop & Cross-Functional LiaisonWork closely with production, planning, engineering, and sales teams to ensure alignment on job scope, timelines, and delivery expectationsParticipate in production/operations meetings, providing updates on job progress, constraints, and exceptionsEnsure workflow sequencing aligns with workshop capacity and resource availabilityQuality, Documentation & TraceabilityMaintain accurate job records including QC documentation, material traceability, and delivery recordsEnsure all quality documentation is captured, verified,
and stored in line with internal and ISO-aligned processesReconcile delivery dockets against sales orders, ensuring accuracy for invoicing and audit purposesCustomer & Delivery CoordinationProvide technical and progress updates to internal stakeholders and, where required, customersCoordinate with transport/logistics to ensure on-time delivery and correct documentation handlingSupport end-to-end visibility of orders from release through to proof of deliveryAbout YouTrade-qualified or hands-on experience in fabrication, welding, or manufacturing environmentsStrong understanding of fabrication processes, material properties, and workshop workflowsAbility to interpret engineering/fabrication drawings and translate into material and production requirementsExperience with material take-offs, cutting lists, or estimating highly regardedFamiliarity with steel supply chains, processing methods, and procurement practicesComfortable working across multiple systems (Excel, SharePoint, ERP/MRP or similar)Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple jobs concurrently in a fast-paced environmentDesirable Technical ExposureKnowledge of LEAN manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologiesExposure to ISO **** or similar quality management systemsExperience with software such as AutoCAD, Beamline, or production/job tracking systemsUnderstanding of welding processes, tolerances, and QA requirements within fabrication environmentsAbout the RoleRocklea, QLD$70,000 – $80,000 + SuperFull-time, Permanent
