Psychologist : $35.93 to $53.41 per hour
Social Worker Level 4 : $57.52 to $58.95 per hour

What You'll Be Doing
The SNSWLHD New Street Service is a NSW Health child protection initiative and part of a developing network of services delivered by Local Health Districts in NSW. It provides counselling intervention to families of children and young people (10-17 years) who have sexually harmed. The program includes a specific focus on improving outcome for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
The Aboriginal Counsellor position has a key role in ensuring the delivery of quality, specialist services in a forensic service while providing a specific response to Aboriginal families including working with non-Aboriginal and both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal clients.
Selection Criteria
- Must be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent (NB applicant’s race is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised by Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977, NSW) and have established links with their local Aboriginal community.
- Tertiary qualifications in Psychology and current registration with AHPRA OR Degree in Social Work or Bachelor degree in Counselling or related field as per NSW Health Service Health Professionals award, with eligibility for membership of the AASW. Willingness to undertake accreditation with the Child Sex Offender Counsellor Accreditation Scheme administered by the NSW Children’s Guardian.
- Demonstrated experience, knowledge and skills in providing therapeutic treatment to children and young people who have engaged in harmful sexual behaviour and/or experienced abused and an ability to engage and work positively with children and young people who have sexually harmed children.
- Understanding the impact of colonisation on Aboriginal people and communities and its relationship to Aboriginal Family Violence and demonstrated ability to work effectively with Aboriginal people and communities.
- Demonstrated ability to provide cultural advice to services with the aim of increasing appropriateness and effectiveness of service strategies for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander population.
- Demonstrated excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills and a demonstrated ability to use computer programs e.g. Microsoft, computerised data entry and client management systems e.g. Electronic Medical records and an advanced ability to maintain comprehensive and efficient clinical records.
- Demonstrated high level understanding of the legislation, Government policies, including NSW Health policies and legal issues surrounding violence such as the Aboriginal Family Health Strategy, trauma, sexual and physical abuse of children and the application of these in a health setting.
- Evidence of a current unrestricted drivers’ licence and the ability to maintain. Ability and willingness to drive/travel as the role requires. This may involve driving long distances and overnight stays.

All new employees must agree to comply with the requirements outlined in this policy. OASV requirements also include proof of vaccination against influenza and is compulsory for NSW Staff that enter any Residential Aged Care Facility (RACF) or who work in NSW Health owned and operated RACFs.
All NSW Health Category A workers are required to have received at least three doses of a COVID-19 vaccine. You will be required to provide a record of your COVID-19 vaccination status if successful. Category B positions must have at least two doses and must also provide COVID-19 vaccination evidence if successful.
