About your opportunity
Operating Theatre Assistant / Permanent full time / Commencing ASAP
Townsville Hospital and Health Service are seeking an Operating Theatre Assistant to join the Operating Theatre unit on a Permanent full-time basis. The Operating Theatre unit is located at the Townsville University Hospital Campus and sits within our Surgical Service Group.
The position of Operating Theatre Assistant will assist nursing, medical and surgical staff within the 14 Operating theatre complex and outlie areas to ensure a protected and efficient work area.
About the role
- Assist with the transfer of patients to and from the operating tables using appropriate equipment.
- Assist with Perioperative antiseptic preparation, limb support and manipulation, irrigation fluids, and basic cardiac pulmonary resuscitation.
- Apply cast, splints and other appliances to patients as directed.
- Cleaning of operating theatres and associated areas in accordance to the Queensland Health Guidelines and Infection Control Guidelines. This will include a “high clean” of the theatre environment by the operating theatre assistant during core business hours.
Generous remuneration package value up to $72,176 p.a. comprising:
- Salary range of $60,556 to $63,259 p.a. (OO3)
- Annual leave with 17.5% loading
- 12.75% employer contribution to superannuation.

Requirements
- It is a mandatory requirement to be and to remain vaccinated against COVID-19.
- The appointees to this position will be required to carry out frequent and repetitive lifting, manual handling of goods and patients. Accordingly, there is a requirement for the successful applicant to undertake a Functional Capacity Assessment. Appropriate manual handling training will be provided.
- This is a Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) risk role: Hepatitis A/B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, and Pertussis.
- Pre-employment checks will be conducted.
