This is a permanent CA3 Full time position

Key competencies (role specific criteria)

You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following:

- Possess or be able to rapidly acquire knowledge and skills in the receipt, labelling, registration and processing of patient-related samples including ability to become familiar with the AUSLAB computer program, including accurate and effective data entry skills.
- Ability to perform or acquire skills to perform routine basic or complex pre- and post-analytical tasks
- Understanding of laboratory policies and practices, including Workplace Health and Safety, continuous quality improvement and regulatory requirements (NATA, AQIS, OGTR).
- Ability to perform duties while working in a multi-skilled and multi-disciplinary team and communicate effectively with peers, professional and technical staff and clients.
- Ability to actively participate in a working environment supporting quality human resource management practices including employment equity, anti-discrimination, occupational health and safety and ethical behaviour.

registrations and other requirements

- No formal scientific qualifications are required for this position
- The position will be utilised to assist Public Health Virology and Public Health Property Point in the delivery of a 24-hour, 7-day service. All newly appointed staff are engaged with the understanding that they may be required to work any rostered shift within the 24-hour 7-day roster period, including overtime as required. This facilitates the progressive review of staffing and shift arrangements in the Core Laboratory to accommodate changes in workload and service requirements.

Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) requirements

- It will be a condition of employment for this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against one or more of the following vaccine preventable diseases during their employment: Hepatitis A & B, Measles, Mumps, Pertussis, Rubella and Varicella.
- Additional vaccinations including Japanese Encephalitis and Rabies may also be required for this position.
- Existing staff that are engaged prior to 1 July 2016 are not subject to this condition of employment unless they apply for a role with VPD requirements that is with a different Queensland Health entity (i.e. one HHS to another HHS, department to a HHS, or HHS to department).
