We are looking for a Risk and Compliance Manager, responsible for overseeing risk management, workplace health and safety, compliance, and emergency management at Firbank Grammar School.
The successful candidate will have in-depth knowledge of compliance, OH&S; legislation, and governance, with a focus on maintaining regulatory standards and fostering a safe school environment.
Key Responsibilities
Risk Management:
- Provide specialist advice to the School Leadership and the Board on the design and implementation of the School’s risk management strategy and frameworks.
- Develop succinct and informative Board-level reporting on risk profiles and controls.
- Oversee the ongoing review of the School’s Risk Register.
- Partner with the Leadership in the implementation of risk mitigation strategies.
- Actively promote a strong risk management and compliance culture.
- Liaise with stakeholders, the Board and legal regarding privacy matters.
- Ensure risks are identified for extra-curricular activities (sport, incursion, excursion), and assist staff in managing risks via Consent2Go.
- Work with relevant stakeholders to develop Business Continuity Plans.
- Raise emerging risk and compliance issues with the Director of People and Culture and the Principal.
Workplace Health and Safety
- Keep up to date on legal and regulatory changes that may impact the School and make recommendations where existing procedures and practices may require review.
- Review and maintain the Incident Reporting System, procedures, tools and checklists.
- Investigate and report on incidents, recommending corrective and preventative actions as appropriate.
- Chair the School’s OHS Committee
- Coordinate Board H&S; and Child Safety Sub-committee meetings, prepare quarterly report for Board on H&S; issues.
- Conduct or coordinate OHS Audits with relevant stakeholders.
- Review and escalate as appropriate any Incident Reports, and ensure staff are supported.
- Develop and provide training for staff as required (including emergency procedures, OH&S; Induction, Child Safety Standards, and other training as required)
Injury Prevention/Management
- Develop and implement OH&S; inspection and management audit tools and implement an audit schedule for each Campus (based on OH&S; risk profile) to ensure continuous compliance with all legislative requirements and that safe systems are being followed.
- Assist in injury prevention through the implementation of risk management activities.
- Oversee the WorkSafe process for injured staff, including assisting staff in raising claims, manage ongoing claims,
oversee return-to-work obligations, provide ongoing support to impacted staff.
Compliance:
- Manage the development, implementation, documentation and dissemination of relevant policy, procedures, processes, controls and guidelines to promote a compliance culture and reduce risk across the school.
- Advise on legal and /or mandatory changes that may impact the School and make recommendations where existing policies and practices may need review.
- Maintain the School’s policy register.
- Undertake regular audits of policy versus practices; work with the relevant stakeholders to modify or bring into line non-compliance issues through re-validation, training support or process change of documented policies.
- Support government regulatory audits (e.g. VRQA).
- Develop and oversee systems and processes following best practice guidance for ensuring appropriate procedures for all visitors and contractors at the School (WWCC, Induction, Training).
- Liaise with and ensure the School’s insurance providers are providing the correct level of cover for all activities and facilities.
Emergency Management:
- Oversee the emergency management practices across all three campuses including updating of all management plans and maps.
- Coordinate Emergency Management training for the emergency management team and wardens.
- Coordinate emergency evacuation and lockdown drills with Heads of Campus.
- Seek and action feedback from staff after all drills.
- Coordinate termly testing of emergency tones.
- Oversee the development and review of the Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan (PEEP) and any other specific safety plans for students who require one.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Formal qualifications in Risk Management or WHS, and/or significant relevant experience in a similar environment or organisation.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Ministerial Order No. 1359 – Implementing the Child Safe Standards and the ability to ensure compliance and prioritisation of Child Safety Standards.
- Experience of legal, insurance, financial obligations and risk requirements of business, including practical knowledge of Australian Standards pertaining to risk management.
- A high degree of judgement and interpersonal skills to resolve operational issues that may arise.
- Knowledge of the statutory requirements governing the operations of a OH&S; function including the OH&S; and Workers Compensation legislation, codes of practice, regulations and guidelines.
- Current Working with Children Check, current National Criminal History Police Check (or willingness to obtain).
- Current Victorian Driving Licence.
