About the role:

The Organisational Policy Unit (OPU) is responsible for the development of Victoria Police policy. This involves working closely with all Commands and Departments in Victoria Police and exposure to a diverse range of subject matter. This includes operational policing focussed policies, such as those related to the exercise of police powers, family violence and covert services, as well as internally focussed policies regarding human resources, training and professional and ethical behaviour. As part of this work, OPU is involved in a variety of internal projects and working groups.

Key functions of OPU include:

- policy governance including developing, administering, and implementing the frameworks and processes that support policy functions in Victoria Police.
- development of organisational policy instruments, such as the Victoria Police Manual, Chief Commissioner Instructions and instruments delegation and authorisation. This is to reflect organisational direction and priorities, legislative change, project and operational requirements, etc.

OPU sits within the Policy and Legislation Division (PLD), Capability Department. PLD is a dynamic and high performing division that operates across the policy life cycle from initiation, development and implementation of legislative reform at a national and state level, through to the development of organisational policy. It also provides executive advisory services. PLD staff are agile, working across multiple functions and subject matters to support the broader team in delivering organisational priorities. PLD has a solid culture of service excellence, teamwork, inclusion and support across work units to achieve positive outcomes for Victoria Police and the wider community.

Your duties will include:

As part of the Senior Policy/Projects Advisor role in PLD you will:

- Work collaboratively within a small team, and larger division, to deliver high quality policy work
- Provide advice and support across Victoria Police as an expert in policy governance, review and development
- Make a valuable contribution to key organisational projects involving policy change
- Prepare and deliver high quality and timely briefings to Executive Command, including the Chief Commissioner
- Contribute to divisional and departmental objectives and priorities

As the successful applicant, you will have:

- Highly developed strategic, analytical and conceptual skills
- Highly developed written and verbal communication skills
- Highly developed stakeholder consultation and management skills
- Experience developing policy documents, briefings and reports on complex issues
- Experience in managing or developing people
- Demonstrated agility to work across various work functions and subject matters

Requirements and relevant information:

- One (1) x full-time, ongoing position available.
- This position is located at Victoria Police Centre, 311 Spencer Street, Docklands.
- Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa.
- The successful applicant will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include fingerprint checks and misconduct screening.
- In accordance with organisational policy, all Victoria Police employees are required to be fully vaccinated (including a booster vaccination) against COVID-19 or hold a valid medical exception.
