In-house opportunity for a 3-7 year PAE construction lawyer | Sydney CBD location
Your current company
This construction company is an award-winning contractor that employs over 11,000 people globally and has delivered iconic projects around the world. In Australia, it operates across all sectors with a focus on social infrastructure including hospitals, educational facilities, stadiums and CBD high rises as well as other complex infrastructure, servicing both government and private sector developer clients.
Your new role
As Contracts and Legal Manager, this role will see you providing a broad range of both commercial and legal advice across the company's Australian operations, including:
- reviewing, negotiating, drafting and amending various construction contracts including head contracts, consultancy agreements, joint venture agreements, subcontractor agreements and supply agreements, as well as terms and conditions, confidentiality agreements and other general commercial contracts;
- supporting the business with back-end matters relating to contract disputes, Security of Payment claims, arbitration matters and Home Building Act claims, including managing external counsel as required;
- identifying and advising on key contractual and legal risks and providing advice to the business on risk management and dispute avoidance;
- ensuring compliance with company policies and legislative requirements;
- assisting in the development and delivery of training on contract interpretation and administration;
- providing general commercial legal advice to the business in relation to IT, HR, marketing and WHS matters.
What you'll need to succeed
You will hold a current and unrestricted Australian Practising Certificate and have approximately 3-7 years' PAE in construction law, ideally with experience across both front-end and back-end matters. You will have the confidence to work with autonomy with an ability to deliver results in a fast-paced environment. Excellent stakeholder engagement and influencing skills are critical, as are strong problem-solving skills and a highly commercial approach when providing advice and guidance to internal stakeholders.
What you'll get in return
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is looking to step up into a more hands-on role and work directly with business stakeholders on a wide range of projects. Working in a small team, you will be given lots of autonomy within a very collegiate and supportive work environment, and have the opportunity to move into a more commercial role with excellent career progression opportunities. The organisation also offers excellent benefits, including additional leave days, wellbeing programs, adaptable work arrangements, corporate discounts (e.g. gym memberships and meal subscriptions), and social events.
