Job Description
Reporting to the Head of Legal - Group Life, you will support all parts of TAL’s Commercial Legal team, with the support and mentoring of senior lawyers.
This is a permanent role with flexible work options.
In this role you will:
- Advise on products and offerings as part of TAL’s Direct, Retail and Group life insurance businesses
- Advise on life insurance products and policy documents, and agreements required for TAL’s business including with our distribution Alliance partners and Group fund partners
- Negotiate and draft contractual terms for arrangements with Alliance partners, superannuation trustees, distributors, and third-party suppliers
- Review disclosure material and marketing
- Advise on legal matters relevant to our business, including the Corporations Act, Insurance Contracts Act, Life Insurance Act, Superannuation laws and other legislation relevant to a financial services business (including privacy law)
- Pro-actively identify regulatory or legislative developments relating to the TAL Group’s Direct, Retail and Group life insurance businesses
- Advise on and assist with legal advice on and communication to relevant stakeholders (including regulators) on breach reporting and remediation
- Support the needs of the Corporate Legal team enterprise wide including contracts, financial advice licensee advice (Affinia) and intellectual property
Qualifications
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Legal working experience, preferably within life insurance, superannuation and/or financial services
- Be admitted as a solicitor in Australia
- Excellent technical knowledge of financial services laws including Chapter 7 of the Corporations Act, Life Insurance Act, Insurance Contracts Act and the Supervision Industry (Supervision) Act
- Excellent and effective communications skills
- Collaborative and a team player
- Highly motivated, driven to excel, and excellent customer service skills
