As we expand internationally, we are looking for a Managing Director to oversee our 1 Hotel opening in Melbourne and ultimately take on a regional role in Australia, as we continue to expand in the region. As the first mission-driven luxury hotel brand, we are looking for a candidate with prior experience in Australia, with at least 10 years as a General Manager, and ideally, a prior regional role/ experience in openings. The ideal individual must be business savvy and know how to manage the needs of different stakeholders, from the ownership group to the asset managers to, of course, the management team and the overall 1 Hotels brand group. This individual will be our brand ambassador in the Australasia region and will and need to be prepared to help us launch and champion the 1 Hotels brand and ensure that we are doing all the good we can.

1 Hotel Melbourne Overview

Situated on the Yarra River, the hotel will provide breathtaking waterfront views and provide access to a 3,500-square-meter public park. Melbourne is o ne of the most sophisticated global cities, where a perfect blend of rich cultural history and new age trends are waiting to welcome affluent and inspired travellers seeking high-end accommodations, dining and entertainment.

More specifically, you will:

- The Managing Director will have full responsibility for all aspects of the hotel opening and operations. This includes guest and employee satisfaction, financial performance, sales and revenue generation and ultimately delivering a return on investment and overall growth in EBITDA. We are looking for someone who is full of creative ideas and has the ability to motivate a team, as well as possessing strong financial skills, an understanding of e-commerce and a love of food and beverage
- Through their own style and leadership the successful candidate will be pivotal in ensuring that this hotel and its business surpasses shareholders and stakeholders aspirations, establishing the 1 Hotels brand in Melbourne as the next level of sustainable luxury in the Pan-Pacific region.
- The successful candidate will help develop and thereafter deliver all relevant strategies and company sponsored initiatives and, as importantly,



will lead the team in the pursuit of excellence in all aspects of the hotels operations and business. Opening a hotel is no easy task, and this individual will need to be a strong leader to manage all aspects of this project, with remote support from the brand team.
- Of course, a key element of a successful hotel, is financial performance and this individual will work closely with the brand and the ownership group to ensure that the pre-opening budget expenses are controlled, and that post opening, all departments manage their financials against budgeted expectations
- The right candidate will not only be responsible for the successful launch of this hotel and leading the day-to-day culture, but they will be in charge of the look, feel and ambience of the hotel as a whole, ensuring that design standards are met, uniforms are on point, and that the guest experience is flawless throughout the entire customer experience. And yes, that counts for our internal customers/ team members too!

We believe success in this role will be achieved by a dynamic and positive individual, who possesses the following skills:

- Previous, recent, experience in managing a luxury hotel in Australia required
- Prior opening/ re-positioning experience preferred
- Ability to manage across different timezones, with a remote brand team
- Must have a strong track record of financial performance and ability to manage budgets, particularly in pre-opening scenarios
- Ability to articulate a strong vision for the hotel, embracing and embedding the values of the brand, being able to narrate how we are doing and where we are heading, and to hire and lead the team in one direction, both pre- and post-opening.
- Strong strategic and financial planning skills are essential for this role.
- It is essential that this position communicate, coordinate and work well with owners, designers, contractors, Home Office team, and of course, , local team members
- This individual will need to create a culture focused on delivering the highest levels of financial results, customer service and online reputation
- This candidate will need to be able to think for themselves; understanding the difference between autonomy and accountability, without a constant need to check and/or waiting to be told what to do
- Strong business acumen with proven track record of delivering across key business metrics including market performance, revenue and profit growth
- Detailed knowledge and understanding of all commercial and financial aspects of hotel operations

- Lead/ Attend Daily Rallies and share Information with all team members. Create a culture of training and accountability
- Educate yourself on our Design Standards and make sure that Managers and team members know the required property furniture look books.
- Dress for success – ensure our team members are held accountable to the uniform standards and that Managers follow their style guidelines.
- Support guest experience and satisfaction in all operations. Ensure team members understand how they are empowered to address guest concerns.
- Be our brand ambassador both internally and externally. Champion the 1 Hotels values to ensure we are treating all guests and team members fairly and that we are doing all the good we can in the local and broader community.

About you...

- A highly driven and dynamic attitude with a passion for hospitality that transfers into everything you do
- A detailed knowledge and understanding of all commercial and financial aspects of hotel operations, and the strategic vision to bring this to life.
- Strong knowledge of the Southeast Asian markets a plus. Prior and recent Australia experience essential.
- Strong communication and influencing skills, verbally, in writing and in presentation mode
- Experience overseeing large conference areas a plus
- The ability to quickly identify potential opportunities and challenges; devising strategies to deal effectively with both
- A highly driven and dynamic attitude
- Ability in forging strong relationships and involvement in the local business / community
- Experience in openings or managing redevelopment and refurbishment projects. Proven track record of working with new concepts
- Ultimately you will want to own this role; you will be an individual that team members will want to work with and for, you will hear and be heard, motivate and inspire, communicate to influence and become renowned for the success of both the hotel
