HEAVY DIESEL MECHANIC / FITTER

This vegetation and land clearing Contracting has been running for 9 years, building a tight crew built on operator‑driven reliability. We look after councils, farms, stations, roads & highways, rail and state forest work across Victoria.

We’re hiring a Heavy Diesel Mechanic / Fitter who wants to take ownership of the fleet and keep 50+ pieces of gear earning, not sitting.

What you’ll work on

Roughly 60% in the Central Vic workshop, 40% in office across VIC, with about 2 nights away per month (all expenses paid).

You’ll be hands-on across:

- Excavators 3.5T–10T up to 40T

- Specialised kit: green climbers, mulching attachments, Barco mulchers

- Trucks: Isuzu MR – Kenworth semi low loader (about 10 trucks)

- 10+ work utes and assorted plant

What you’ll actually do

- Diagnostics, servicing and repairs across the fleet

- Hydraulics, exhaust systems, engine in/out changeovers, basic wiring

- Overhaul subsystems and assemblies (eg pumps)

- Strong fault finding to minimise downtime

- Keep clear service and repair records

- Work with the Workshop Manager, operators and fabricator to plan work

- Build and run maintenance schedules & programs, and help spec specialised tooling





- Over time, own the maintenance program for all gear

Must-haves

- Trade-qualified Diesel Mechanic / Heavy Duty Fitter

- Confident across hydraulics, engines, exhaust, basic auto-electrical

- Proud of your workmanship with neat presentation

- Proactive, good communicator, comfortable talking with operators and the office

- Can work independently but play well in a small crew

Nice-to-haves

- Engine rebuild experience

- Able to order your own parts, consumables and materials

- OBD / onboard computer diagnostics

- MR/HR truck licence or above

Hours, pay & benefits

- Full-time, permanent

- $35–$55 p/hr depending on experience

- Approx 50 hour weeks, 7am – 5ish, OT and some weekends as required (seasonal)

- Super at 12%, penalty rates after 50 hours, travel paid

- Paid annual leave, uniforms, PPE and tools supplied

- 3 month probation, work vehicle provided after 6 months

- Small team of about 12: workshop manager, another fabricator, operators, office manager and owner

- Career path to Maintenance Manager or Operator if that’s the direction you want to grow
