Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Safety Superintendent to lead site safety performance at our large scale open cut coal operation.
Reporting to the HST Manager, this role provides strategic and operational safety leadership, ensuring compliance with Queensland Coal Mining Safety and Health Act (CMSHA) and fostering a robust, visible safety culture across mining, CHPP, maintenance, and contractor workforces.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strong, visible safety leadership across all departments
- Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of the site Safety Management System (SMS)
- Ensure compliance with QLD coal mining legislation, standards, and site SHMS
- Drive risk management processes including:
- Principal hazard management plans
- Bowtie and critical control verification
- ICAM / incident investigations
- Partner with operational leaders to embed safety into production planning and execution
- Lead and mentor the site safety team
- Manage statutory reporting, audits, and regulator engagement
- Oversee contractor safety performance and compliance
