Senior Claims Specialist - Public Sector - Building Insurance Your new company An excellent opportunity has become available for an experienced Senior Claims Specialist to join a well-established Domestic Building Insurance (DBI) claims function on a temporary basis, with a strong likelihood of the role extending or converting to a permanent position. This role has arisen due to growth within the team and forms part of a broader growth phase. High performing contractors will be well positioned for longer-term opportunities.
Your new role
Reporting to a Portfolio Lead, you will manage an end-to-end portfolio of Domestic Building Insurance claims, delivering fair, timely and empathetic outcomes for policyholders. This is a hands-on role suited to someone who can quickly step into a complex claims environment and confidently manage stakeholders, assess liability and communicate decisions.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing your own portfolio of DBI claims from lodgement through to resolution
- Interpreting and applying policy coverage, assessing liability and quantifying claim costs
- Negotiating settlements and identifying recovery opportunities
- Participating in conferences, mediations and hearings, working closely with appointed legal providers
- Reviewing and analysing claims information to determine accurate and defensible outcomes
- Contributing to the continuous improvement of claims processes, policies and reporting
- Building effective relationships with internal teams, service providers and external agencies
- Delivering a high quality, claimant-focused service with empathy and professionalism
What you'll need to succeed
This role is open to candidates from a range of professional and specialist backgrounds. While experience in insurance claims or domestic building is advantageous. You may be successful in this role if you bring experience from areas such as legal practice, finance, credit, compliance, risk,
dispute resolution, investigations, regulation or complex case management, and can demonstrate strong analytical and decision making capability. You will ideally bring:
- Experience working in a structured, regulated or risk-based environment requiring sound judgement and defensible decision making
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to assess complex information and reach a balanced outcome.
- Experience interpreting contracts, legislation, policy, financial data or formal frameworks
- Confidence managing difficult conversations, negotiations or disputes with multiple stakeholders
- Exposure to dispute resolution processes, tribunals, hearings or mediation environments (desirable but not essential)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain decisions
- A calm, professional and empathetic approach when dealing with sensitive matters
- The ability to manage competing priorities in a fast paced environment
- Experience using case management or CRM systems (Salesforce experience advantageous)
What you'll get in return

- Annual salary between $98,000 and $130,000 + 12% superannuation, depending on your experience.
