Senior Finance Operations AccountantPermanent | CanberraA privately owned organisation is seeking an experienced Senior Finance Operations Accountant to take ownership of core finance operations, controls, and transactional integrity. This is a hands-on role suited to a technically strong accountant with a commercial mindset and experience improving how finance functions operate.
Your new roleReporting into senior finance leadership, you will play a key role in ensuring financial accuracy, compliance, and operational insight across the business. With a strong focus on accounts payable and transactional accounting, you will also contribute to finance process improvement, systems uplift, and high-quality operational reporting.This role will appeal to a Big-4 or mid-tier trained accountant looking to apply their technical foundation in a commercial, operational environment.
Key responsibilities

- Ownership of end-to-end Accounts Payable operations, including reconciliations and payment runs
- Ensuring solid financial controls, GST accuracy, and compliance across finance processes
- Supporting month-end activities, including accruals, reconciliations, and ledger integrity
- Analysing spend and operational financial data to identify trends, risks, and improvement opportunities
- Supporting budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow analysis at a business-operations level




- Acting as a finance SME on system and process improvements
- Liaising with internal stakeholders, external accountants, and auditors as required

What you'll need to succeed

- Background in public practice (Big-4 or mid-tier) and/or strong commercial finance experience
- Solid technical accounting knowledge with hands-on transactional exposure
- Proven experience in finance operations, AP oversight, or control-focused roles
- Understanding of Australian accounting standards and tax requirements (GST, BAS, PAYG)
- Strong Excel capability and confidence working with financial data
- A practical, detail-driven approach with an improvement mindset
- A CA/CPA qualification (or working towards) is highly regarded.
