Varicent Query Language | VQL | Varicent ICM | SQL | Python We're seeking a highly experienced Varicent ICM Expert to join a leading organisation in Melbourne CBD on an initial 12-month contract, with strong potential for extension. This is a hands-on, technical role ideal for someone who thrives in complex compensation environments and enjoys optimising performance at scale.
Key Responsibilities

V aricent ICM Expertise
- Develop and optimise VQL (Varicent Query Language) within Composer, with a focus on refactoring component-level logic to reduce calculation overhead.
- Design and maintain complex commission models, including trail commissions and multi-tier aggregator hierarchies.
- Configure and manage core system components such as Presenter, Workflow, and Scheduler for high-volume batch processing.
- Implement and enhance clawback and arrears logic, ensuring accurate recoveries and adjustments.
- Drive performance tuning initiatives, including data partitioning, lookup optimisation, and multi-threading to reduce batch windows.
Python & Data Engineering
- Manage and maintain a large library of 100+ Python scripts supporting data ingestion and transformation.
- Implement robust error handling, logging, and automated alerting frameworks.
- Contribute to DevOps practices, including version control, code governance, and deployment pipelines.
Technical Infrastructure & SQL
- Leverage advanced SQL (stored procedures, window functions, views)



to support high-speed data processing.
- Perform database profiling, including execution plan analysis and indexing optimisation for large datasets.
- Build data lineage and reconciliation frameworks, ensuring full traceability from source to Varicent outputs.
Banking & Operational Excellence
- Manage batch window governance, ensuring timely delivery aligned with strict business readiness deadlines.
- Lead environment migrations across development, testing, and production models.
- Ensure adherence to financial compliance and audit standards.
- Act as a key escalation point for incident resolution, diagnosing and resolving calculation discrepancies.
About You
- Proven hands-on experience with Varicent ICM (Composer, Presenter, Workflow, Scheduler).
- Strong background in commission systems within banking or financial services.
- Advanced skills in SQL and Python, with a focus on performance and scalability.
- Experience delivering in high-pressure, time-critical batch processing environments.
- Robust analytical mindset with exceptional troubleshooting capabilities.
