Exciting opportunity for a Senior Data Engineer to join a leading global retailer.

About the Role:

The Senior Data Engineer will facilitate the use of data within the data team as well as allowing the benefits of data to be liberated across the organisation and within our clients digital transformation.

Permanent Role
3 days on-site in Port Melbourne (free parking)
Open to candidate with Azure and/or AWS background.
Proven experience with large datasets

Role Responsibilities:

- Primary focus will be the data, the platform we handle data with, the integrity of data and the security of data.
- You will be instrumental in the analysis, design, build and repeatable testing of tools, frameworks and delivery for data transformation, data migrations and other data services artefacts.
- Document the data processing logic, including requirements, solutions, reconciliation, execution, reporting & low level ETL logic.
- Fully understand business data requirements and convert these into real solutions.
- Work with the delivery team and data team providing advice and guidance to help size effort, value and create great designs.
- Iteratively define solution design details to a level that developers/SI partners can build a solution from:

o Produce, critique and evolve high-level designs for both local and global solution
o Act as SME for developers and testers providing clarifications, responding to queries about any aspect of the design and to triage issues




o Ensure the detailed low level design documents are produced at the right time to the right level of quality.
o Reviewing and assessing detailed designs from our SI partners.

- Assist in Project reporting by providing updates & reporting risks and issues
- Working with the Cloud and Environment teams to monitor, update, evolve and drive improvement in our Azure platform –
- Embody the use of modern techniques like Test Driven Development, Continuous Improvement/Continuous Delivery when applied to the Data Space.

Key Skills / Experience:

- Strong PySpark and Python development skills.
- 5+ yrs Data Engineer (proven experience as a Senior Data Engineer)
- Strong technical understanding of how databases work, as well as the use of data development software (ETL packages) & data programming languages.
- Strong, commercial application delivery using CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation.
- Proficient capability to understand business processes, to understand and create requirements, apply them to a tool design and execute its build.
- Commercial delivery experience in the following tools & programming languages:
- Azure Data Lake & Azure Data Factory
- Azure Databricks (SQL and Python) & Azure SQL Server
- Azure DevOps/Git
- Data Cluster configuration and optimisation

- Excellent communication skills - to discuss technical principles and business processes.
- Enthusiasm for learning, trying new things, sharing knowledge and developing skills in others. The ability to invent and innovate in the determination of creative solutions to all problems.

Desired Skills / Experience:

- Current cloud data and infrastructure certification
- Data Analysis tools suites (including PowerBI Premium)
- People leadership & investment in self-development
- Open to someone with an AWS background
