About the role

The Site reliability engineer role is an essential role in the Application Engineering Operations team working with stakeholders in both business and engineering teams to ensure the effective delivery of supporting operational tasks including Incident, Problem and Change management. SR engineer will have a passion for testing, architecture, and observability and able to design and develop new ops tools and explore new concepts.

Site reliability engineer is responsible for designing and delivering a reliable, scalable, secure, and performant platform proactively identifying and mitigating issues within AE systems to maintain a minimum availability of 99.95%..

The incumbent will perform regular analysis of the applications, data, network and technical components of the AE systems and work on Service Management principles (ITIL) to maintain Production systems stability.

SR engineer will have a passion for testing, architecture, and observability and design and develop new ops tools and explore new concepts in the SRE domain. The incumbent will provide resolution of questions around system performance and incidents ensuring those incidents are resolved within current SLA’s and conduct technical presentations when required. In addition, good time management skills are required.

The ideal candidate for this role will have passion for automation and ability to use various software’s and tools within Optus ecosystem to automate resolution of customer problems.



The candidate will also have ability to learn current technologies and skills.

About you

- Diploma or bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent.
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in the operation and management of large-scale systems in a mission critical environment, in positions requiring the exercise of good technical judgment, proactive solution development complemented with a high level of customer service focus.
- Experience exercising service management processes, incident management, problem management, change management etc
- Demonstrated experience java development and building Ops monitoring tools.
- Experience designing, debugging, and running fault tolerant large-scale distributed systems
- Demonstrated experience with software repositories such as GIT & Bitbucket
- Demonstrated experience with relational database such as Mysql , Oracle, Postgres
- Demonstrated experience in Linux system administration, HA Proxy, apache, WebLogic, tomcat and Jboss.
- Knowledge or experience with Java, Python, PHP, C/C++, JavaScript
- Experience with generating reports using large data sets
- Great Communication Skills
- Able to pro-actively identify challenges and recommend solutions.
- Flexible: preparedness to change ideas and behaviors when faced with conflicting or new information
- Demonstrate a willingness to take ownership of solutions
- Exhibit and require the highest ethical standards and integrity
- Work well under pressure and to tight deadlines




- Display a disciplined but flexible approach to problem solving
- Have a long-term focus on customer relationships
