The UNSW IT Division:

The UNSW IT Division plays a critical role in delivering the IT systems used at the University for teaching, research and industry engagement. We work in partnership with our faculties, students, divisions and broader community to provide solutions that empower and enable excellence throughout the University. There are two areas of activity: modernising the university’s technology footprint and delivering reliable services; and enabling new market offerings and innovation in the “moments that matter” to our students, staff, researchers, alumni and guests.

About this role:

This is an exciting, newly created role that will establish a clear conduit for identifying, realising and driving innovation in our enterprise technology. The role aligns with strong demand for innovation across the University and the wealth of cutting edge ideas that exist.





The creation of the role responds to the challenge of simultaneously enabling innovation and maintaining a resilient enterprise technology environment. Working in partnership with the rest of the University the successful candidate will:-

- implement an innovation framework that facilitates the identification and pilot of new ideas and make it easy for academics and professional staff to obtain advice on potential innovation.
- foster assessment of emerging technologies that might benefit the University; and
- play a key role in supporting the University’s new market offerings that require technology enablement.

Responsibilities:

- In partnership with colleagues in the Enterprise Architecture and StARs teams, lead the development of a technology stack and data architecture to support innovative market offerings and lead work to develop the technology support required for innovative market offerings
- Lead and develop a structured innovation framework in collaboration with relevant peers across the University and provide advice to other parts of the university on innovative ideas with the potential to significantly support UNSW strategy and promote on platform innovation
- Pilot Emerging technology for enterprise use and emerging technology applications
- Maintain a strong understanding of the Higher Education and relevant industry, building collaborative links with higher education and industry partners to ensure UNSW IT is at the forefront of digital innovation.




- Proactively contribute to the IT Executive Team to help shape and implement technology strategy, planning and priorities

Skills and Experience

- Tertiary qualification with significant experience in embedding innovative technology and demonstrable experience driving change management in complex organisations
- Demonstrable leadership and stakeholder management and engagement at senior leadership levels and in complex matrix environments.
- Strong experience aligning with, mentoring and motivating a team of senior IT professionals to deliver the key customer requirements.
- Solution focused with the ability to demonstrate high levels of negotiation and consultation expertise.
- Demonstrable superior interpersonal and communication skills
- Sound understanding and knowledge of the tertiary education sector, trends and challenges is highly desirable
