Are you a digital marketing specialist with a passion for audiovisual culture?
We are seeking a creative, result-driven and experienced social and digital Marketing Specialist to tell the national story using the National Film and Sound Archive’s audiovisual collection. You’ll develop channel and audience plans, ideate and create content, distil insights and build an engaged community across the nation. You’ll contribute to brand building and will develop and implement national campaigns and corporate initiatives.
The Marketing Specialist, National Audiences is a key member of our Marketing & Communications team which contains marketing, design, communications and digital content. The team is split across our Sydney and Canberra offices.
This position is located at the NFSA’s Sydney office. Contract term is for 18 months with a possible 18 months extension.
About the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia (NFSA)
The National Film and Sound Archive of Australia (NFSA) is Australia’s audiovisual cultural institution. The NFSA collection includes over 4 million items including films, television and radio programs, videos, audio recordings and video games. The collection also includes contextual materials such as costumes, scripts, props, artefacts, photographs and promotional materials. Public programs and services ensure that the collection is available for enjoyment, learning, research and for re-use by creators. In the digital age, the NFSA’s wealth of stories will be increasingly available across the country, and on demand.
Job Details
This position requires a marketer with demonstrably strong campaign skills with strengths in digital platforms, copywriting, storytelling and an audience focus. We’re looking for someone who is curious, insight driven, passionate about social and digital media and telling stories and driving increases in cultural participation.
The Marketing Specialist, National Audiences will undertake the following duties:
Social Media & EDMs
- Work with the Senior Manager, Marketing to develop channel and audience plans for all NFSA social channels.
- Develop plans to extend the national reach of the NFSA, brand awareness and engagement with the collection.
- Collaborate with the content and curatorial teams to develop and promote engaging content that tells the national story.
- Ideate, write and develop social media and EDM content and manage all approvals and publishing.
- Create and maintain the content schedule for all social media channels and national EDMs.
- Ensure timely, audience-focused moderation of all social media channels in line with NFSA’s policies and best practices.
- Develop, write and build all national emails and optimise to achieve goals.
- Develop and implement strategies to drive and optimise referrals from socials and EDMs to the website.
Brand and Campaigns
- Work with the Senior Manager, Marketing on branding initiatives and campaigns
- Develop paid and owned campaigns for national promotions.
- Manage the development of campaign assets end-to-end including briefing the designers, writing the marketing copy and the management of approvals and production of materials.
- Provide marketing support to the NFSA teams liaising with the audiovisual industry, e.g., Access, Curatorial.
- Support the Senior Manager, Marketing with corporate marketing activities.
CRM, Audience and Insights
- Develop and implement customer acquisition and retention plans and collaborate with the Senior Manager, Marketing on CRM strategies.
- Manage the development of a robust and active customer email and contact database.
- Work with the Senior Manager, Marketing to build a body of research and insights about the audience.
- Develop and maintain regular social and email reports and insights to inform future content and marketing strategies.
- Produce post-campaign reports, distil insights and implement learning across future campaigns.
- Identify industry trends and emerging opportunities and track key performance indicators.
General
- Work collaboratively with the Canberra-based Marketing Specialist. Provide cover for this role as required.
- Produce design briefs and manage the timely development of assets with the design team. Liaise with external vendors for designed assets as necessary.
- Track budgets and process invoices for all paid activity.
- Some after-hours work will be required occasionally to document events or to moderate social media channels. Flexible working arrangements are available to cover those occasions.
- This role is subject to all the relevant sections of the PS Act 1999 and the National Film and Sound Archive Act 2008 . The terms and conditions of this role will be those specified under the National Film and Sound Archive Enterprise Agreement 2017 – 2020 , NFSA policies and values.
- Some travel to Canberra will be required.

Selection Criteria
In relation to the ‘Job Details’ listed above, concisely demonstrate your skills, experience and achievements against each of the following areas:
- Proven strengths in social media, including the production of content and the development of an engaged community.
- Strong experience in the development of EDM strategy, content and audience plans.
- Demonstrated ability to manage digital promotional campaigns.
- Strong copywriting and messaging skills with the ability to write for a variety of digital mediums.
- Audience-centric, curious, data and insight driven.
- Strong project management skills.
- Collaborative team player with a positive outlook.
- An ability to be a self-starter, work autonomously and work effectively with colleagues across locations (Canberra, Melbourne and onsite in Sydney).
- A passion for audiovisual culture and digital marketing.

Qualifications and/or equivalent experience required:
- 5+ years' experience in a campaign marketing role.
- Marketing, Arts, Communications or relevant tertiary education.
Eligibility
To be eligible for this position you must:
- Be an Australian Citizen
- Satisfactorily complete an Australian Federal Police National Police Check
The other eligibility that may be included in a job would also include the following:
- Obtain and maintain an Australian Government Baseline Security Clearance.
- Obtain and maintain a Working with Vulnerable People registration.
