Project Overview

My client, a large Queensland Government Department, is embarking on a journey of new ways of delivering its ICT services. Changing their tooling, frameworks and operating models will be critical to this.

As the Solution Architect, you will initially be aligned to the following projects:

Pre-Production Setting Re-design

Windows Server Migration

The purpose of the Pre-Production Environment Re-design project is to deliver a number of key outcomes to support the journey:

Develop new solution and technical patterns to support improved productivity, quality, security and time to deliver.

Design and deliver necessary organizational change activities to support transition to new solution and operating model.

Implement the necessary enterprise ICT changes to allow for the adoption of the new solution and technical patterns.

Migrate existing workloads to new solution and technical patterns.

The purpose of the Windows Server migration project is to:

Ensure that all workloads currently hosted by the department’s core enterprise offerings are hosted on vendor supported operating systems, hypervisor and hardware/ IaaS provider (as deemed appropriate).

Given the close knit nature of these two initiatives, this role will support both to ensure that there is a fully connected plan of action to deliver the agreed outcomes.

The Solution Architect will be responsible for:

Delivery of Architectural Artefacts: Logical and Technical / Physical Architecture artefacts and related design documents

Solution implementation Oversight:



Working with vendors and internal development teams to ensure delivery of the solution to requirements and quality expectations

Leads the development of technical architectures for complex systems, ensuring consistency with specified requirements agreed with both external, and internal customers.

Takes full responsibility for the balance between functional, service quality and systems management requirements within a significant area of the organisation.

Establishes assessment criteria for the appropriate selection of systems architecture components, and co-ordinates design activities, promoting the discipline to ensure consistency.

Ensures adherence to the appropriate standards (corporate, industry, national and international.)

Within a business change programme, manages the target design, policies and standards, working proactively to maintain a stable, viable architecture and ensure consistency of design across projects within the programme

Required skill set:

Understands and can demonstrate low level tools, testing techniques, use of diagnostic software applicable to the success of the final solution.

Demonstrable and solid experience with technical (solution) architecture and practical implementation of various solutions.

Solid experience with TOGAF and ITIL and associated change control methods including operation transformation.

Demonstrated relationship, communication and negotiation skills.

Demonstrable experience in integrating with, and desirably extending, large and complex Identity & Access Management/Authentication services

Demonstrated experience in the design and implementation cloud and hybrid on-premises-cloud solutions with a preference to the Microsoft technology stacks.

The department offers a hybrid work environment. The successful candidates are expected to attend the office located in the Brisbane CBD when required.
