About the role:

Walgett Shire Council is seeking a hardworking and reliable Urban Maintenance Worker for the Walgett-based Parks and Open Spaces area.

This role inspects and maintains and enhances public infrastructure such as parks, gardens, sporting fields, footpaths, cemeteries, and aquatic facilities. The position performs general horticultural and manual labour tasks and requires the safe operation of tools, machinery, and vehicles. Adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations is essential, along with a commitment to providing quality public service and maintaining a positive image of the Council.

In addition to technical responsibilities, the role requires strong communication and teamwork skills, the ability to follow instructions, and a proactive approach to risk management. Workers are expected to support Council’s goals through collaborative efforts, upholding confidentiality, being adaptable to evolving duties, and promoting a positive image of Council to the community and public.

This role would be suitable for someone who enjoys practical, hands-on, physical work, and being outdoors. Position is permanent, fulltime working 38 hours per week with every second Friday an RDO. Candidates will require a valid Class C driver’s license and a WHS Construction Induction Card. Tickets in plant operation, chemical safety, chainsaw operation and first aid will be highly regarded.

About you:

Success in this position will require:

- possessing the skills necessary to carry out inspections, perform routine maintenance, and operate various plant and equipment safely and efficiently
- being motivated and hardworking with a practical background in horticulture




- being physically fit, willing to perform manual labour and to work in adverse weather conditions
- ability to demonstrate a sound understanding of safety procedures and strong commitment to workplace health and safety and environmental standards
- ability to follow instructions, work within timeframes and have a willingness to learn and adapt
- being reliable, respectful, with a positive attitude, strong communication skills and willingness to contribute effectively to a team
- understanding the importance of public service and taking pride in upholding the reputation of Council and the community

- Hourly rate of $28.38-$34.14 depending on your experience, plus superannuation
