The Rural Recovery Worker facilitates a range of supports for farmers and farming communities in Armidale Regional Council LGA (including Guyra), Uralla Shire Council LGA and Walcha Shire Council LGA. The position provides case management & referral to appropriate agencies for individuals and families who are experiencing psychological and financial distress. The role also provides advice and support regarding access to a wide range of financial subsidies available for farm families, and administrative and clerical assistance with completing and lodging government applications for assistance.
The Rural Recovery Worker position is primarily funded by The Mazda Foundation. Activities attached to this project may also be funded by one-off grants from other agencies. For example, the project is currently delivering a series of suicide prevention events funded by the Primary Health Network that are aimed at educating farmers and small rural communities about how to speak with people who may be considering taking their own lives, and where to refer people at risk so that they can get more help
Selection Criteria
Essential:
- Demonstrated experience of living and working in rural communities.
- Demonstrated awareness of the impact that drought, fire and other disasters have on individuals,
family relationships, agri-business and communities.
- Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to network and build relationships with individuals, agencies and rural businesses that are currently working with impacted farmers.
- Proven ability to learn about the various assistance packages and financial support options available for farmers.
- Ability to provide support to farmers and community groups to assist with application forms, supporting documents, lodgements etc.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain strict confidentiality, whilst following reporting protocols in crisis.
- Robust administrative, organisational, and time management skills.
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite.
- Current First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain).
- Current Driver's Licence.
- National Criminal Record Check (or willingness to obtain).
- Working with Children Check (or willingness to obtain).
- Relevant training such as Safetalk, DvAlert, ASIST, Mental Health First Aid
Desirable:
- Qualifications in counselling, community services or similar field.
