Role Description
This is a full-time, on‑site Industrial Sewing Machinist / Assembler role based in Carrum Downs, VIC. The position involves operating industrial sewing machines to produce high‑quality awning and shade components according to specifications and quality standards. Daily tasks include measuring and cutting fabrics, sewing seams, hems, and reinforcements, and assembling finished products using appropriate tools and hardware. The role also requires reading and following patterns, technical drawings, and work orders, inspecting materials and finished items for defects, and reporting any issues.
The Industrial Sewing Machinist / Assembler will collaborate with production team members, maintain a clean and safe workspace, perform routine machine maintenance, and support continuous improvement in manufacturing processes.
Qualifications
- Experience operating industrial sewing machines, with robust skills in precision stitching and handling heavy‑duty or technical fabrics.
- Ability to read and interpret patterns, technical drawings, and production instructions for awnings or similar textile products.
- Competence in measuring, cutting, and assembling components using hand tools and basic workshop equipment.
- Strong attention to detail, quality control focus, and ability to identify and correct defects in materials and finished products.
- Good manual dexterity and physical capability to work with larger fabric panels and repetitive production tasks.
- Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively within a small manufacturing team.
- Commitment to workplace safety, including safe machine operation and maintaining an organized work area.
- Previous experience in industrial sewing, upholstery, canvas work, or fabrication of outdoor shade products is highly advantageous.
- Reliable work ethic, punctuality, and ability to follow established processes while meeting production deadlines.
