Production Team Member - Specialty Mushrooms
We’re a growing specialty mushroom farm based in Craigieburn, operating from a purpose-built indoor cultivation facility using automated production equipment and controlled growing environments.
We’re looking for a reliable, practical and hands‑on person to join our small production team.
This is not just a packing or general labouring position. You’ll be involved across the production process, learning to operate equipment, prepare materials, handle production batches and keep work areas and machinery clean and organised.
No mushroom-growing experience is required. We’re much more interested in finding someone who is reliable, mechanically minded, comfortable working with machinery and genuinely interested in learning how the operation works.
About the Role
Your work will include:
- Preparing and mixing raw materials for production
- Operating and monitoring automated and semi-automated production equipment
- Loading, unloading and moving materials and production containers
- Setting up equipment and work areas for different production processes
- Carrying out routine production tasks and quality checks
- Cleaning and sanitising machinery, equipment and production areas
- Assisting with basic equipment adjustments and troubleshooting
- Following production procedures, hygiene requirements and safety processes
- Helping improve day-to-day workflows as our production systems continue to develop
- Assisting with other practical tasks around the facility when required
The work is hands‑on and can be physically demanding. You will need to be comfortable with repetitive tasks, being on your feet and regularly lifting and handling materials up to approximately 20 kg.
Who We're Looking For
You don't need experience in mushroom growing.
You may have previously worked in manufacturing,
food production, machine operation, warehousing, agriculture, trades or another hands‑on environment.
More important to us is that you:
- Turn up reliably and on time
- Are comfortable operating and working around machinery
- Have good practical and problem-solving ability
- Take pride in keeping equipment and work areas clean
- Can follow a process consistently without needing constant supervision
- Notice when something doesn't look or sound right and are willing to speak up
- Are physically capable and comfortable with hands‑on work
- Are willing to learn new equipment and processes
- Work well as part of a small team
- Have a current driver's licence and reliable transport
A forklift licence, previous machine-operation experience or mechanical/trade experience would be useful, but isn't essential.
Hours
The position will initially be approximately 3-4 days per week , with hours varying somewhat according to the production schedule.
There is potential for hours and responsibility to increase as production expands.
For the right person, we would like this to develop into a longer-term role with the opportunity to take greater ownership of production and potentially progress into a senior or leading‑hand position as the team grows.
About Us
We're building a modern Australian specialty mushroom operation in Craigieburn.
Our facility combines controlled-environment growing with automated production equipment, and we're still at a stage where a positive person joining the team can have a genuine impact on how the operation develops.
We're a small team, so we're looking for someone who wants to contribute rather than simply complete a list of tasks.
If you're practical, reliable, enjoy working with equipment and like the idea of learning something a little different, we'd like to hear from you.
